Problem with DiRT

A friend is having a problem with DiRT when he attempts to change the settings.

Basically, whenever he alters anything, he gets asked to restart the game. So he does so, but encounters an error and Vista tries to correct it. But when he loads up the game again the settings are at default. So it's like a big loop.

Anybody know how to fix this annoying bug?

I believe I'm talking to the same fellow and am currently instructing him to edit the config files.

I have no clue whether this'll work, worth a try though!

I had the same problem with the demo. Not on Vista though.

When asked to restart the game choose no. Exit manually and relaunch the game.

No idea if that'll work, but it's worth a try.
 
I have probs in XP when i change res etc..., when it restarts i sometime get the has encountered an error box needs to close, so when i restart it the res has only gone up 1x, like when its on 800x600, if i change it straight to 1280x1024, when it restarts, errors, i restart it, but its only gone up one to 1024x768, so if i change it again to 1280x1024, it restarts, errors etc... but this time when i start it its at 1280x1024, seems to only like going up in increments, 1x res increase at a time.
