Hi.
I'm hoping I'm being a nub and that this is a really easy one to get sorted!
Got a new rig with 6600, DS3 and WD 320GB SATA drive. This is my first SATA drive but figured it would be kinda straightforward. Started by connecting the drive to the first yellow SATA connector (SATAII0) but the drive was not detected. Similarly with all the other yellow ports.
However, by using the purple (Gigabyte GSATAII0/1) ports the drive would show up (as IDE Channel 5 Master/Slave respectively). For whatever reason, I just can't get it to pick up the drive on channels 1-4. Oddly, when using either the 1st two yellow ports "Detecting IDE" appears only once, but if it's in the 3rd or 4th "Detectng IDE" appears twice - so maybe it's finding something but a settings wrong?
The board was originally using the F4 bios which I've flashed to F9 but with no joy. I'd rather use the yellow ICH8 ports so I don't need to use the Gigabyte drivers for Windows to find the drive, but it seems that I might have to? Is there something wrong with the ICH8 or is there something I need to configure somewhere?
Btw I'm using all BIOS defaults but have played with the various SATA options I could find with no joy.
Thanks in advance for any help!
