Ok problem with my first build, just put my 3570k into pc, and on my MOBO it shows the red DRAM light and wont post. It repeatedly turns itself on and off again every couple of seconds, however if I remove my RAM sticks it will stay on longer but still not post. I have tried swapping the sticks over, and just with one stick of RAM. Is there anything that I should be doing? Everything seems to have been put in properly. All parts from OCUK and nothing 2nd hand, only thing I am reusing is the optical drive, which was working last time I checked.

So is the RAM or something else?

Does the DRAM light flash if it is another problem other than RAM?

Specs:

i5 3570k
Asus P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-483-AS )

Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

What is the full spec of the system m8?

Also have you tried 1 stick of ram in all the slots on the motherboard?

Since there is no Graphics card on that spec I am assuming that you are using the
on board motherboard graphics so its not going to be a power supply issue.

If you have tried both stick of RAM in every slot on the board individually and you still can't
get the system to post then I would suggest that you have a faulty board.

Infact something that you could try is this.

Put both sticks of RAM in the system and then turn it on and next to the LED there should
be a button/switch called MemOK! press and hold that till the light flash's and then the PC
should post.

Doing that will configure the RAM to best settings for the board.

If that fails its a faulty board for sure m8.

Does your mobo have a memok button, if so try that. But as has already been said, try each stick in all slots.

Still will not work!!!! Set the bugger up outside the case and just cuts out every 2 seconds still.

Is anyone able to confirm the ram I have is supported by the MOBO? The MOBO is ivybridge ready so that shouldn't be a problem either?

Does this light only go on if its a ram problem too? Or faulty mobo?

The usually flashes when the board is booted up and then the light will go out when it
has finished posting, if the light is on all the time though then there is a problem with the
RAM or the Motherboard and I would say the board after some searching on the net I have
seen a few people with this problem also.

The ram is supported. Do you know someone with a pc you could test the ram or try their ram. This my help to decide whwether its mobo or ram at fault.

Hi there,

May I ask what BIOS version you are running?

Only the 3703 and later BIOSs support the new 22nm Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Did you buy the board new or is it being reused from a previous sandy bridge setup?

But if the pc will not turn on how can I update it :s

Unfortunately you can't - you need a compatible CPU to allow you to update the BIOS.

If you can't borrow one in the next day or so then I would suggest you return the board under DSR and instead buy a Z77 board like this one. This is a newer chipset with native USB3 and PCIE gen3 - also they cost the same as Z68 boards. Crucially they also work with Ivy Bridge CPUs - no matter what BIOS version it comes shipped with.

*facepalm* Trouble is, the mobo was bought over 28 days ago, I just didn't open it because I waited for ivy. They really shouldn't have '22nm ready' on the box if it doesn't support ivy out the box???

I have a solution, if you like. I could take my 2500k out and come to you, that way you can upload the lastest bios.

To be fair to them - if you bought it over 28 days ago then the Ivy bridge CPUs weren't out and they are unlikely to be setup with the earliest Ivy compatible BIOS - which was only released on March 15th.

Though I do agree that if they have the sticker for "22nm ready" they should also have the BIOS to back it up.

It would still be worth contacting them - you never know what they will say (especially if you are planning to buy a replacement Z77 board anyway).

Another option would be to buy a cheap second-hand LGA1155 CPU, use it to update the BIOS and then sell it on. In fact you could even buy a retail CPU - the G530 2.4GHz Celeron Dual core only costs £30 at the moment and is compatible with the release BIOS of your Z68 board.

It wont matter if its not in the 28 days the Board is faulty so your can RMA it, and you can
ask them for a different board because that is faulty and see what they say.

Worst thing that will happen is they will send you another board and it works perfect so you
loose nothing by asking.
