hi guys got an issue a friends PC isn't working for some strange reason.
Symptoms are as follows:
Power to pc is ok but no visual output. Keyboard and mouse don't work.
The graphics card seems to be working because neither the mobo or card make the screen work.
I seem to be stuck on diagnosing this one!

Would be most grateful for your help. Thanks

Are there any BIOS beeps? One beep usually signifies the POST was passed and everything was fine. Look up the BIOS beep codes for his particular motherboard.

Also, try using the onboard graphics port if he has one, if that works then it could the GPU at fault.

No BIOS beers that i can hear.
Onboard graphics port isn't working either. Its an old 755 mobo but even my mates doesn't know what mobo it is.
He bought it refurbished yearssss ago.
I feel the mobo might have given up the ghost.

Reset CMOS as suggested, remove gpu card and test with onboard gpu.

If this works, go into bios and make sure it is set to use graphics card first, then install the card.

If you can, test as many components as possible in another computer.
Try stripping the computer of everything except the bare essentials (motherboard, CPU, HSF, 1 stick of RAM, PSU) and see if you get any display output.

I constantly read about peoples hardware failing, it makes me worried that it will be my turn soon. I still have all my computers... A socket 1155, 775, 478, 370, and 5. With the exception of an optical drive and a fan header, they all work fine :/

Great advice. If you can swap the components out one by one with another pc that will be the easiest way to diagnose.

Not always possible though :(

have you tried it with just the bare minimal components in ? ie, unplug all USB take out GFX card swap memory around etc etc ?

Tried that last night.
I have a feeling its the mobo.
This isnt a new build its a pc thats just stopped working =/ seemed fine on wednesday then wont boot on thursday.

Here'a vid to show power to components etc but it not actually posting.

If you're hearing no beeps at all that's strange, unless the board doesn't have the speaker attached, see if you can get a hold of one. Do the fans spin when you turn it on? Ie. is there any power?

Is usually beeps.
If you turn sound on for the video you should be able to hear the fans spinning.

GFX fan and CPU fan both work.

If it usually beeps then it could be the motherboard as it sounds like it's not even completing the POST. Also, as suggested above have you taken out various components to check whether or not it's an issue with the component / a power issue?
