problem with gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

I've already reseated my CPU and that hasn't made any difference for me.

got my machine on it's side for the last 3 days, results so far:

Sunday cold boot - 2GB available
Sunday warm boot - 6GB available
Monday cold boot - 4GB available
Tuesday cold boot - 6GB available

All BIOS settings at performance defaults (ie stock CPU, XMP profile, onboard audio and floppy drive disabled). I won't even go into the BIOS screen over the course of the week so I can see what happens for normal use :)

hi when it recognized 6gb did you change anything

Ok, I've just left the machine off for over 90 minutes so I think this also qualifies as a cold boot ;)
so...

Tuesday 2nd cold boot - 6GB available

that's interesting mine never recognizes 6gb unless i reset the bios

Mine didn't used to unless I either removed and replaced all the RAM sticks or made BIOS tweaks and saved. It started recognising mostly 2, occasionally 4 and rarely all 6GB after I removed the CPU to check the socket pins and switched the order of the sticks around in the white sockets while putting it back together.

I remain convinced that this isn't a mechanical issue with the socket pins in my case since in the BIOS, when only 2GB (ie 1 stick) is being detected it's always the same stick that shows the SPD values. When I move that stick around it remains the same stick that shows it's values but in the "new" socket. I don't see how that would happen if there was improper contact on certain pin(s) to the CPU.

So far though, with the machine on it's side I'm getting the best 6GB detection rate I've had so far, not perfect by a long shot but an improvement. Maybe a coincidence? I'll keep checking it :)

Since it's running with all 6GB available now I've started a Prime95 run and 6 tests have completed now on 8 threads without error - I've had some faulty OCZ sticks in this machine and they would've fallen over or crashed the machine by now so I remain convinced too that these problems aren't a fault with the RAM, especially since I've got Patriot and your on Corsair and we have the same issues :)

edit: my BIOS version is F5 on the revision 1.0 board
There's a new beta F6M available on the Gigabyte UK website, but it doesn't mention memory compatibility so I'm leaving that well alone ;)

Ive had this same problem, i have to clear the cmos to get it to recognize the ram then reapply oc settings which is a pain in the ***** when you have to do it every other reboot. ive left the RAM voltages at stock and it seems to have helped a bit.

This problem can also be caused by overtightening the cooling bolts - try slackening them off a touch to see if that cures the problem.

I've decided if I can I am gonna change mb to a different model, can someone suggest a good mb with similar features to the gigabyte, must have SATA 6Gb/s

Been watching this thread for a few days now, And I am going to try re seating the CPU and Cooler to see if that makes any difference to my setup, Just for reference My Board is the Revision 2.

The guys at Overclockers must have built dozens of PCs with this board with it being one of the overclock setups? Wonder if any of them have had any PCs with the same issues, Would be interesting to know.

Im sure an answer will reveal it self with so many people having the same issues.

First cold boot today - 2GB available
Second cold boot - 4GB available

Might be able to try another cold boot later, and hopefully a warm reboot too

If anyone from overclockers checks these threads from tech support, an idea of what to do would be useful :)
I really don't know if this a board problem or a RAM problem, but since this board and RAM are sold in bundles you have to assume that the components themselves are basically compatible

Actually, yes. I was suffering from this. I had to RMA my H50, so got a stock cooler on. I read a lot about reseating the CPU. I did it when changing the cooler and all is well and good. I doubt the plastic bracket on the H50 would be shorting anything, or flexing the board. I think the problem probably lies with the sheer density of pins and connections under the socket.

2 cold and 1 warm boot yesterday all gave 2GB available.
1 warm boot with a BIOS edit (tweaked RAM multiplier down 1 notch to 1333Mhz) and I got 6GB

I dont think lying on it's side helps :(

Next thing to try is reseat the CPU and try the stock cooler but at this rate I'm not hopeful - plus I dont want to end up with the stock cooler anyway but what the hell

i'm gonna get a different mb if they ever get back to me

I have had this a couple of times now.

Setting the "performance enhance" setting to standard seems to have fixed it.

On default non overclocked settings the pc would sometimes blue screen and also loose 2GB if extreme setting was used.
