I have two 2 Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 TOXIC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card. When I am playing a game on ultra settings after some hours the screen goes and a red light appears on the graphics cards. The fans go into overdrive. This is normally due to over heating I thought however the cards were only reaching 65c max. I thoughts cards could go a lot higher than that. Any ideas?

Problem with graphics cards over heating

yes this is what i thought. However the signs point towards overheating. I was checking temps every 2 mins and they where around 65. They would not jump 15c in that time would they? Could there be a protection setting on the cards to stop them reaching that temp? I have the Corsair Professional Series AX850 High Performance 850W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply
It could well be some sort of power issue.
I'm pretty sure that if these cards aren't getting enough power, if you forget to connect a PCI-E power cable for example, they just sit there with the fan going full blast and a red warning LED on the back of the card.
Have you set the Power Control Setting to +20% in the Catalyst Control Centre?
