Hi All

Looking for some help with what to try next with my laptop.

Saturday morning it was working fine and shutdown ok then Saturday evening I got nothing.
When switching on the LEDS come on, the DVD Drive kicks in and the HD LED flashes for just 1 second but then nothing and no display on the screen, completely blank.
I have tried the following:
Swapped HD
Checked memory and tried another stick from a working laptop
Did the power reset thing with battery removed
Removed CMOS battery
Checked fans are working
Connected to external monitor but still nothing

Now am lost. I had 3 OS on this system and never had a problem with any of them and laptop has never crashed or anything and never had an issue with overheating.

Appreciate any advice as this is a nice laptop and in perfect condition, when working

Cheers

sell is as faulty, buy a new laptop......

assuming you mean the lights stay on, if they flash and go it it might be the power socket....

That Nvidia chip of death sounds a likely cause. Seems like a lot of problems with the HP DV laptops and the graphics chip. Not exactly HP´s finest hour.

Found a few guides about trying to fix this by using a heatgun on the chip. As possibly knackered may give this a try, have nothing to lose and if it fails I guess i could always chuck the screen on Fleabay.

Well I found a great little guide on youtube where the guy used a small blowtorch on the chip. To my suprise after giving this a try everything started working but only for a day and then it went again so its basically kapput but decided to break it down and already the screen went to someone for €50
