Hi guys, I reformatted yesterday but before I did so I copied my entire COD folder from my steamapps. I was under the impression I could just copy it back in (as I've done with other games) and it would work.

Am I missing something? I copied the folder to here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

Alas no luck when I restart steam, the game is just greyed out in my library. Any ideas?

Have you actaully started the install and download for it? Once that's started and you give it a min so steam can create the necessary files you should be able to just stop the download and then copy and paste the files in.

Also, as sniffy said. In future you should use the back-up feature.

I have used this method a few times, as do many others. The steam backup deature takes too long :D

Yep just did, seemed to do the trick for MW2. Civ4 was nearly downloaded again so I just let it carry on. Thanks a lot :)

no point, takes ages and often fails.
God knows how many times i've used it and never really had any problems. The only thing was back when the back-up system wouldn't include a file to restore the files. However you could create one yourself... so not really a problem.

Last time I used the steam backup facility it loaded my entire CPU to 100% and ground me to a halt and took forever to complete. Never trused it since then...
