Hay all.

Now i don't think its the cold that's the reason why but u never know.

Ok i got a Suzuki intruder vl 125cc and before i set off anywhere i let the bike warm up for like 10 min (smoke time lol )

Anyways some times if i don't keep the revs up it just cut out on me :(

And the bike does sound a bit different like the engine sound like its struggling with a deeper sound to it not the normal sound i am use to hearing.

I got no clue what could be the problem only started when the weathers got colder so could well be the cold after all lol.

Thanks for any help guys/girls.

Sounds like it's Oil'ed up to me because you let it sit on choke for 10 minutes Every time you start it up, Idling on choke does it No good at all.
You should get kitted out then start the bike & Ride it, Not let it sit there getting coked up.
It'll need a good service with possible carb removal & a clean out. Probably just a new Plug & air filter will do but if that doesn't sort it you'll have to do the carb.

Sounds like malc is on the money.

Take the plugs out and check if they're all fouled up. May well just want to give them a bit of a clean.

Nice one guys so really its bin my fault the hole time lol

The air filter element is in perfect condition when i check few weeks ago.

I will check the plugs in a bit.

My m8 can sort the carburetor if it need cleaning.

So the best thing is to start with choke on full then when its started turn choke off ?

Noob questions i know but never had this problem before on my other bike (tzr 125)

Thanks

Nope.
Be ready to ride when you straddle the bike.
Apply choke.
Start it & then ride it.
Do Not Thrash it or let it tick over just run at a nice steady speed.
Then just gradually tweak the choke in bit by bit until it's properly warm.
Always & I Mean Always give it a good Thrashing once warm.
You do not need to break the speed limit to thrash it just dropped a few gears & boot it or take it up to just red line in say 3rd or 4th gear. This gives it a good clear out & avoids coke build up on the plug & in teh exhaust silencer.

Thanks malc30

The way i was told to use the choke is leave choke on for a bit before setting off but i guess that guy was wrong lol

So running choke as your riding is the best for it and then turn it lower and lower untill the bike warmed up then off comes the choke and everything all good.

I give that a go later today :D

Cheers

To be honest I start (used to) with the choke & concentrate on warming it up asap & getting the choke of asap aswell. I hate that low rev stutter you get when the choke is on so Thrash my way through it as soon as poss. I could get my bike warm & off choke by the end of the road which helps loads as there are no stops or junctions etc along that length.
Pick your start up route where you can just get on & keep it high revved & get the choke off asap.

When I start a bike with a choke when its cold (or warm) outside my method is

a) Full choke, no throttle, start button - if it doesn't readily start within a second or 3, then chances are plugs are fouled, fuel is off or possibly water in the electrics
b) Most bikes wtih full choke will usually be fast idling at 2.5K-4k within seconds at which point I'd reduce the choke to allow the engine to idle around 2-2.5K, then as it warms up more over the next minute or two repeat adjusting the choke towards it being fully off (in steps) while maintaining around a 2k fast idle
c) when the bike is semi warm (usually about 50-55C on large bikes...with mosthaving normal workign temp in the range 70-80C) the choke can totally be turned off leaving the bike idling near normal

^^ this is my method and not really by the book which normally state to ride off asap turning choke off once your able but I like to use the 1-3mins it might take fast idling on various amounts of choke to finish getting my gear on (helmet, gloves etc.) knowing that by the time I'm ready to sling a leg over the bike I can ride away without any choke enduced stuttering or ill manners and knowing I can give it a reasonable amount of revs without worrying about how cold the engine/oil is. I usually hold off giving a bike anymore than 3/4 revs till its been upto normal operating tempature for a few minutes

Same here, well with a bike with manual choke at least:

Start with choke and no throttle,
my NC30 can then have the choke turned off completely as soon as it picks up and revs to 4.5k, whilst it's doing that i'm usually getting my gloves out of the helmet :p
so turn off choke, put helmet/gloves/rucksack on and get on bike and ride away, engine/oil is still cold so don't rev it very high until I see the temp gauge at least move off the bottom...

The Daytona on the other hand, no choke, but was told to let it idle till it's showing 1-2 bars on the temp gauge ('normal' is 4-5 bars) so that's what I do, doesn't take very long at all so it's pretty much the same routine as the nc30 :)

Very similar to this with my bike.
Slap the choke on full, start bike and it idles at about 3-3.5k. Drop the choke so that the bike is ticking over at about 2k and leave it like that whilst gloves and lid are being adorned. By the time I have got it to the gate, it is ready for the choke to be let fully off and I know that I don't have that sometimes horrible hesitation when you need a bit of squirt to get off. Whilst riding until it is fully warm, I don't take it about 7-8k, after that a bat up to 12-13k usually clears it out (on the motorway or dual carriageway;))
