O.S: Windows 7 home 64 Bit
CPU: AMD Bulldoser Fx 6100 Processor 3.3GHz 6 core
RAM: (Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 4GB DDR3 PC12800)
MOTHERBOARD: Asus M5a78l-m/usb3 ( Latest Released Bios )
GRAPHICS CARD: Nvidia Geforce 8800GT
Harddrive: 1.3TB

I am currently having some issues. This is my first complete build and could have missed somthing really easy knowing me.

Problem:
I have everything running and going great couple of minutes later run prime 95 for 12 hours without it finding a issue ( with all 6 cores running ). First assumed it was Ram and i did get errors in a Ramtest. But bought some other Ram and still got the same issue. Soon as i turn off prime 95 computer just turns off randomly and when restarted comes up with a dump file message. This was about 2 months ago and no one could give me a real answer, but hopefully a bit more is known.

After spending hours playing about with settings and managing to get it to run normally on one core and then worked it will run on 4 cores ( 1,2-3,4) so i assumed 5-6 could be dead and damaged, but was told this is unlikely and tried running it on (1,2-.5,6) and it run completely fine. So it runs absolutely fine on 4 cores but dosent run on 6.

Very confused and any help would be much appreciated. The motherboard and cpu was 2nd hand off a friend had seen them working previously and the motherboard used to run a Amd Fx 8100 fine.

if it crashes when you turn off prime95 that will be due to a VRM issue. If your motherboard BIOS has an option for load line calibration, you should disable it.

Says it supports 95W CPUs, which the 6100 is. However, the turbo might be pushing it a bit over. If you can disable the turbo core feature, try and see if that makes a difference when stress testing.

give it ago, loadline calibration disabled ( well 0%) as it dosent have a disable button just auto or percentages. I havent turned the turbo feature on yet and get the issue. So you think the board is at fault gavingo ?

Your MB is letting you down.
Looks to have weak VRM's.

Get a better board.
Avoid boards with 4 pin 12v power and no heatsink on the VRM's.

Looking at the Asus website you shouldn't have any trouble as long as you aren't overclocking, so just to clarify you can run Prime95 for 12hrs but it crashes at idle? your original post is a bit confusing.

Yes i can run it if i manage to press prime 95 before it shuts down and start stress testing. it will run for hours with stress test running in the background. But will not idle. It does eventually cut out somtimes on prime 95 but earliest it has is around 4 hours. But have had it running for up to 12 hrs.

This probably is not the issue but have you tried disabling power saving features on the motherboard?

It seems odd that it's crashing mostly at idle, but also at prime. Ideally it shouldent crash at all.

Yeah that's what I was going to suggest, try disabling cool and quiet/c1e etc and any other power saving settings.

When the CPU is idle power saving kicks in and it will run at lower clockspeed/voltage, it could be that your CPU is faulty and not stable under the reduced settings.

If it was VRM's I'd expect it so be stable idle and crash under load not vice versa.
