Problem with my mates 7970 :-(

thats well weird, try going into safe mode and removing the standard vga from device manager then reboot, probably wont work tho

also you said the pc has no internet? maybe windows needs a update for it to recognise it...with it being a new card/series and all.......have you actually tried some games on it? wondering if you get the expected fps, if so maybe it just some silly glitch.

As of today (at my house) the new PC has internet.

I connected it at my gaff to pop on the latest gfx drivers.

PC is updating itself at the moment.

Fingers crossed, BUT i'm not holding out much hope!

You could try forcing the driver in by updating the vga device in device manager and forcing it to look in the ati driver folder.

Cyou tried disabaling the onboard graphics?
Got both pci e power cables attached?

Also when installing the drivers off the ati amd website try installing from auto detect, should be a pretty quick test to see if the card is recognised by the computer!

I tried to force an update of the driver from the supplied cd. It states the driver is upto date.

Both pcie cables were attached in both machines. One machine does not have onboard gfx.

When I get home tonight windows will be updated, and ill try auto detect from tha AMD website. Will also try again to force new drivers onto the device.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It's perplexing ..

Sorted.:D

HOWEVER. A word of warning it proves the discs provided with the cards are useless. Not just old and slighly out of date. They are completely useless! AND even worse the suggested latest drivers from the AMD website are also useless. Very POOR.

It's just a token gesture tbh. Never, ever, ever install the drivers from the disc man. That might have been what started all of this in the first place.

Glad you got him sorted though ! :)

It may be a token gesture as you put it but I agree with OCpete it is ridiculous that the supplied materials don't allow you to use the card.
it would be like buying a new car but the ignition key supplied wont actually let you start it you need to go and get a certain new one from a certain place first, or a can of fizzy drink that the ring pull wont actually open it you will need a certain type of can opener.

any new card should come with drivers on a disc that will allow the card to work.
I bet Nvidia are just bad on that front and personally I think it is deplorable.

You can't go expecting a company to spend thousands of pounds on printing CDs every time Nvidia and AMD decide to update the drivers though can you?

Be real, man.

Whereas they can expect people to spend £400+ on a graphics card and not be able to get it work without being able to fetch certain drivers from the internet.

If it says on the box that you need a internet connection to use the device and gives details of where to get the required drivers then it OK but if it doesn't then it is very poor indeed.

Anyway who said anything about them needing to print new Cd's every time they update the drivers, just supply ones that will actually get the card to work with the nice shiny new £400+ graphics card.
