My parents have just purchased a new dell studio laptop with windows 7 preinstalled and have asked for my help with one issue. It seems as if one of the USB ports isnt working and i want to know whether its a software issue or a more serious hardware issue that will require an RMA? I've tried going into device manager and overiding the power management options of the USB ports from there but that doesnt seem to help. Anything else i could try to rule out a software issue?

would there be an option in the bios to check to make sure all the usb sockets are enabled? might also be worth checking in the device manager to make sure there are no unrecognised devices, also try plugging something different into the port just incase it might be something wrong with the device you initially tried

had a similar issue with a vista studio 17. the touch sensitive cd eject button wouldnt work (it would light up when pressed, but wouldnt eject). I did a bios update and a firmware update on the dvd drive and problem solved. Not sure which one solved it though XD
