Just building a new system for a friend with an Asus M2N-E motherboard and X1800XT. When I hit the power button, I get nothing on the screen and the beep code 1 long beep followed by 2 short, which is apparently "Video adapter error". I've also tried my own X800XL card, and that results in the same beeping. Both graphics cards work fine in my own motherboard. Am I looking at a DOA motherboard here?
Thanks,
Michael.
EDIT - An observation which I don't know matters. The moment I hit the power button, a small red LED comes on on the graphics card (X1800XT) and goes off again a second later.
EDIT AGAIN - After every single site I checked said that the beep code I got was to do with the graphics card, it just out that it is the memory that is the problem. The RAM in question is the G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400. Firstly, it will not run in dual channel mode, regardless of whether the memory is fitted into Channel A or B. However, the board does tend to boot with either 1 stick of ram in, or with both in, but not in dual-channel mode. However, it does sometimes randomly spit out its dummy with any configuration. What should I do?!
EDIT AGAIN AGAIN - Sorry to do this, but I've narrowed it down to 1 stick of the RAM being faulty. Will OCUK require that I send both sticks of RAM back for replacement (since it is a dual-channel pack) or do you reckon they will allow me to send only the broken stick back, and therefore allowing my friend to continue using his PC with just the single stick until the replacement arrives?
TIA!
Thanks,
Michael.
