Problem with new graphics card (1070)

Hi there, I am looking for some help please.

My Zotac 1070 came today. I was planning on doing a fresh install of windows (so that i can change the operating system onto my SSD). However, I get stuck on the BIOS screen and it is unresponsive.

The LED on 1070 turns green when i have the power cables plugged in too. I have tried re plugging it in a few times to no success. In order to see if there was a sudden fault in my motherboard i re applied my old 7950 GPU, and it works fine. Everything loaded as it should.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
PSU: Corsair 650TX

Can this be a faulty zotac card or am i missing something, thanks for any tips.

Probably tried this already but try cold boot a few times too (hold down power key, power on, if no display, repeat). If that doesnt work then also try the cmos reset and 3 or 4 cold boots.

I have a gigabyte board and it doesn't like GC changes but suddenly after a few goes it'll boot up and never has another problem until the next GC change. Not changed the card for a while so cannot remember the exact process to get it booting but remember doing a CMOS reset at least once before.

Thank for the info about CMOS guys (even though i dont know what that is lol), i will give that a go as i still cant figure out how to update the bios. But my BIOS does need updated, who knows if that will fix the problem anyway.

I also have a Z77-D3H rev 1.1 and have a Zotac 1070 in the post on it's way to me.

I have recently updated to bios F23b and done a fresh install of Windows 10 for it's arrival.

The best way imo to update your bios is via the on board flashing method, not via Windows or another OS.

Get yourself a memory stick and format it (FAT32 I belive)

Download the lastest bios file. Double click the exe and extract the bios file.

Copy the bios file onto the root of the memory stick.

Restart your system and press or keep tapping "END" and the flash menu will come up.

Navigate to the file and it will validate it. Then flash it. Do NOT stop the process! It will take around 5 mins.

Your system may reboot a few times but just let it do it's thing.

If you have an issue booting into windows then you may have to tweak boot order etc as your bios will revert back to default. So any overclock etc will need to be re applied too.

If in any case your bios gets restored with the backup bios you will need to reflash with the latest bios again.

Goodluck!

I have now updated the BIOS and i think i may be going crazy, but im sure the screen has gotten much clearer lol. Anyway, i have successfully updated the BIOS from F15 to F22, i checked using msinfo32 and checked the BIOS number. So i will now try the new GPU and if that doesnt work i will CMOS the motherboard.

I really appreciate the help everyone, thanks so much. Fingers crossed this does the trick.

You're all a bunch of legends, thanks so much. After updating the bios I can now log on to windows (although the drivers are clearly messed up lol). I am now going to reinstall windows onto my ssd. Thanks again everyone, a very helpful community here.

Glad you got it sorted. A BIOS update seems to sort out the problems with the new cards from both AMD and Nvidia.

Thanks again guys, and good luck with your future purchases. BTW, will the bios update reset my overclock on my i5370K? Was getting 3987 score in valley 1080p extreme HD settings.

You should reset your bios after an update.

Just write down your OC settings and reapply them after you update the bios.

Damn. too late. I just checked and i can confirm my overclock is now at 3.8mhz instead of 4.4mhz

Oh well, need to learn how to overclock processors now :( lol
