Problem with new PC

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can shed some light.
I recently spend guts of 1000 on a new system, i5 2500k, 8gb ram, ssd boot drive etc etc so a pretty good machine, had the whole thing set up and it was 100% for last 2 months, I recently came home for christmas, and decided to drive my pc home, and since the journey, about 90 miles, no bumps/potholes, the system is not running smoothly. It almost seems as though the cpu is stopping very briefly, then starting again, if im moving the mouse backwards left to right across the screen, it will noticably stop very briefly and then jump. The same can be seen if I open notepad, and just press a, it will write 6-7 a's, then stop for a split second and then continue.

What is causing this? is this a sign of a cpu problem? could the cpu cooler have moved breaking the seal with the paste? Just hoping someone has come across this, and I havent done something terminal!

Thanks,

sitting around 37-38, so that doesn't seem to the problem. Its really bad, listening to a music track, its stopping and starting... surely if something came loose in transit, there would be a more obvious problem of it not working at all, rather than coming on, and running, but just not very well? I purchased a new headset recently, could that be causing a problem somehow?

Hard drives are VERY fragile... while you may not have felt any potholes. It may have.

Unlikely to be the hard drive as his boot drive is SSD. Unless this is only happening with data from a data HDD?

When you transported the PC did you lay it on its side? Motherboard down? I dont know what type of CPU cooler you have, but if it is a large one it might have been wobbling around so much it might have affected its seating, or even the pins etc.

Have you tried reseating everything and air can blowing the slots? Dust can be a pain in slots. This is what I'ld do, complete rebuild out of the case, then try with minimal hardware installed and see if the problems are still there.

right, thanks for the suggestions, will try rebuild and hopefully its sorted! cpu cooler is the gelid tranquillo, so its a big one! will let you know if the rebuild works... cheers

Right, just updating in case anyone is interested or has the same problem, I noticed that when my PC was not attached to the wifi, then it would run fine, but as soon as I attached to it, the problems began, music/video playing would stutter and start, and when I disconnected the pc would run fine again. It has all the latest drivers, so its a strange one, I eventually managed to get connected without the problem occuring, but anyone any idea why this was happening, its never happened on my on wifi back home!
