I've got a dell XPS420 and I went into the BIOS to overclock the q6600 but it said I cannot change any of the settings... Why? This is very odd to me and I fancy doing abit of overclocking to see what she can do :)

Probably because of your motherboard which is dell standard im guessing and all the settings for ocing will be disabled.

Dell with Q6600!? That must have cost you at least 300quid more than same self-built system...

NEVER BUY DELL.

Or anything like that, unless you own a huge company and buy 200PCs to run at stock settings.

what chipset is on the motherboard? p35/p45/nforce etc?
if its an nforce one couldnt you use the ntune application?

i know its not ideal but it will give you an option to overclock

im sure there is something similar for intel chipsets too

from memory arent dells cooling solutions only ok for stock settings? you may need to look at an upgrade cpu cooler if you do manage to find a way to overclock

i have no experience with dell oem motherboards but i think software oc utilities in the os would be the only way to go
