problem with pc

Following my sig as specs. I've narrowed down the problem to the PSU or motherboard.

When starting up the computer, the VGA fan will go up, then down, and the same goes on until I switch off the PC. Nothing is displayed on screen, and the 3rd LED of the VGA blinks (overheating - but not)

I've tried the VGA on a diffirent PC and worked perfectly.

When I get the ram out, the pc doesn't turn on. With one ram, it turns on and the VGA's last 3 LED's keep lit. (meaning no power to gpu's)

I've also changed slots on the motherboard but still no luck. Also I've noticed that when I plug in the PC, not turned on,the yellow led on the motherboard that shows that there is power lights and the mouse middle button turns on (Razer Deathadder), something which never was done. Mouse always turns on when the PC was turned on.

When I turn the PC on, everything lights as usual, all LED fans, hard drives seem to spin, dvd-drive also

I've also reset the bios by unplugging the battery and power source for 5mins, but nothing.

What could the problem be?

Try it with a different PSU. If it boots, then you've found the problem, if it doesn't the it's mobo, RAM, or CPU in that order of probability.

ok so now, the problem seems with the ram channels. Using Ram channel 1 and 4, 2gb & 2gb will make the PC power up. With one ram on almost every channel (sometimes it works, sometimes not).

With both ram on dual channel modes, nothing works, the same VGA fan spins up and down.

I think the main culprit is the motherboard.

Would you recommend that I completely migrate to a core i7 setup:

ASUS Sabertooth x58
6GB Ram 1600mhz
Core i7 920/930/950

It depends on your budget. A replacement AM3 board is by far your cheapest option, and is plenty for today's games. i7 is overkill for gaming. If you are hell bent on a new system then either go i5 760 or wait a little bit and see what sandy bridge brings to the table.

yeah, and I have to sell the DDR2 ram to be replaced by DDR3 IMO so that would cost a bit more. And why is i7 overkill for gaming? Also I tend to use it for 3DMax and rendering... An i7 would be a good option to keep for at least the next 3 years?

P.s. what is the performance improvement of sandy bridge and will it be cheaper (don't think so, but just askin :P)

And again P.S. are Biostar motherboards gd as others? I don't like the brand but seems the cheapest 890FX and only 12 pounds more then the ASUS 880g

hm yeah though what do you think, getting a 4GB ddr3 ram 1600mhz with an ASUS 880G or the Biostar 890FX?

Or else completely change the setup to an i7 and keep the setup for at least 3 years

Edit: My last board was a biostar x58. Was a great board.
