Problem with PSU

Hi guys.

I have a problem which I'm almost 100% sure is related to my PSU and again am almost positive will result in my needing to pick up a new one but I'm strapped for cash so am desperately hoping for any advice that just might save the day...

Midway through this week when I went to turn on my Pc first thing in the morning using the switch at the back (on the psu itself) I was greeted with a crackling electrical sound and my PC failing to boot. I switched it on and off again a few times and each time heard this sound - but eventually the Pc booted without a problem and was on for the rest of the day without any noticable grief. The same problem repeated itself over the next 2 or 3 days. Each time I tried to boot it took between 5 and 10 attempts. Each failed attempt did bring a brief flirtation with booting though as the lights came on and things did start only to do a couple moments (literally) later.

Today however I am having less luck. The Pc hasn't been able to boot a single time. I have been able to muster up a few brief connections (where the lights come on and the fans start up) but for the most part nothing has happened when attempting the boot up proccess.

I could really do with any advice or ideas please!

Check all internal cables are firmly plugged in, including the lead into the PSU itself.

Other than that, test another PSU.

It sounds like it may be a loose internal connection inside the psu. It is time to replace now while it still boots up. I'd be worried that it may damage other components.

i had same problem fans would start but wouldnt make post 95percent of time but when it did boot up it ran fine turned out to be my psu and it damaged my mobo aswell .

I am willing to donate my qtec 550w PSu to help bring your PC back to life.

I'll even pay for the p&p...

I don't know who you are, but you just earned a lot of respect from me ;)

Probably doesnt mean anything to you though :)
