Problem with STALKER, or my 8800?

Well ive just installed my new hdd, and got stalker on it, patched etc...started playing, its great!

Well i was playing about 10 mins when i noticed the fps drop from 60 to about 25 or below! this was a sudden loss, just happened, even looking in the same place i was before!

So i tried minimizing the game and opening it back up...and my fps shot right back up to 60+..what the hell?!

I think this has happened in other games too...but alt-tabbing out seems to fix it, but it is very annoying to have to do that every time i play the game every 10 mins or so when this happens!

Anyone else have this problem of random fps loss? Is it 8800 shoddy drivers? (on 158.22's by the way) Is there any fix for it?!

Temps arent too hot... but all i have to do is alt-tab out of the game then go back in and its all back to normal.. its doing it on every game (TDU, Oblivion, STALKER, Dark Messiah..)
 
yeah i had this problem, seems to have solved itself now. I did install the shader mod recently, not sure if thats helped at all but its definately smoother. Seems to be a problem with stalker as ive not had it with any other games...
 
No problems here running Stalker or Oblivion, or anything at all on the 158.22's, somethings definately a miss if its doing it on every game. :confused:
 
There is a problem with the game and memory, I've played the game and fps nosedives, if you run the console command (by using the ¬ key) and type vid_restart it restarts the engine and fps should go back to normal.
 
Oblivion seems to be fine, just played it for 10 mins+ through forests and in the oblivion gates.. 40fps in forest and 40-60 in plane of oblivion..sound right? seems okay

Also ran 3d06, got 10.7k...so it must be STALKER
 
Yeah sounds about right for Oblivion, i get about 44-60 outdoors with it maxed in 1280x1024 and 2xAA/16xAF + HDR, also have SuperSampling on. :)

I know Stalker has memory leaks, but the only time it slows for me is when i enter a new area, as it doesn't clear the cards memory from the previous one.
