Hello,

3 Years ago i purchased all the hardware stuff from here, and build my first PC rig.

Few months ago i came across with the fallowing problem, after i removed my gfx card just to clean the dust of it and the rest of the PC. I could not start my system again, i am not getting the short ( beeep) to let me now that bios is posting, so my pc can start up.

So before i tried to take every single part of the PC out of my case and put it in back together again, but no luck, i did it simply coz like few months ago I had exactly the same problem , but after few times of reconnecting everything from my mobo it started to work again, just out of a sudden.

But now i have tried it few times already, checked all the plugs, cables everything seems to be fine, i also changed the battery on the mobo, and did reset the settings. Nothing!!

Today i checked with a post card and it brought up the 8101 Error, which then i googled and found out that it is
8101 - Processor 2 failed BIST

I am slightly confused but would that be the processor which is integrated on my Asus p5W DH Deluxe mobo?

I don't think it can be my Conroe processor.

Why did I manage to make it work last time and why i can't do it now ? What do ya gys think is the problem?

( Just in case if it sounds confusing, when i start my PC, it sort of starts, psu, gfx, mobo light is on, everything seems to work, but monitor won't start as well as i don't see any light on my keyword which is USB. )

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Vairo

First half of that sounds like a loose connection somewhere, but the 8101 error is bad. It suggests that something has gone wrong with the second core of your Conroe, BIST being short for Built In Self Test.

If you've got another CPU that'll fit, try swapping them over but I have a nasty feeling that you're going to need a new CPU at the very least.

Firstly , thanks for replay.

Well if you are sure that the processor is faulty, that be okay, i can simply buy a new one in that case, but i really need to know if that is gonna fix the trick, and i don't have a spare one to test on atm, might get one on wkend though.

However, would anyone else agree with Juvenal and think that's it for my conroe?

I though that that 8101 could be connected with mobo ?

I do believe my mobo supports all quad cores if I am not wrong?

I just don't wanna get new cpu and then find out that my mobo has something to do with all this.

Many thanks

Vairo

Hi Vairo,

don't buy any replacement parts until you have identified the source of the problem!

To get proper assistance your gonna need to list all your main hardware though?

From what you have described so far it sounds like maybe the PSU is bOrked! either that or maybe a failing graphics card or motherboard?

Hi Big.Wayne

My Hardware specs are fallowing:

Ati2900XT
OCZ DDR2 Ram 2x1gb, 677mhz
Asus p5w DH Deluxe
Silverstone TJ06 case,
X-Fi Fatality Sound Card
Belinea 22 inch Monitor 1650x
2x DVD Drives
PSU- Corsair 550w ( bought it few months ago, coz my old OCZ psu burned down)
2x Hdd, 80gb and 250 gb,( i think 1 is Sagate and other one is Samsung)

I don't think it is a graphics card, since i also tested GTX 295 few days ago and no luck.

It is strange coz it did hapen once before and i did manage to get it back to life, mind you it never happened while i had my old psu.

I will try to take everythign a part again tomorrow after work, see if i get any luck.

Thanks

V.

Try taking out each stick of memory in turn. Clear the CMOS.

Try get your hands on a super-cheap Socket 775 CPU second hand to test your theory with. Shouldn't set you back much more than £7 or 5.5 lats...

Can't say I've ever experienced that error before, does a google search bring up anyone else with that problem?

Tried the cmos before, didn't help. Google is a bit useless with this one, since i don't really know what part is in conflict. Will try an old cpu on sat, see if that makes any difference.

Ta,

Once again I took everything out of the case and put it back together, guess what it works again now, i am indeed happy that i managed to solve the problem again, bit I am still curious what exactly is wrong and could be the reason of this conflict in my case.

I got the felling that maybe my psu cables are faulty, or my mobo, don't see any other reason, don't think cpu could play trick like this, or am i wrong?

Anyways, if i can keep it live and running till the xmass that be great, then i am plaining to upgrade my mobo, ram, and cpu.

Didn't want to start new thread so here is a short update.

My pc finally decided to stop working for good, so as i described before my problem i wasn't sure either it was faulty cpu - jugging by the post card error code, or it was a faulty mobo.

So i went for first option first and bought Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.60GHz from OC, tried it today and nop no luck bios just won't post.

Now after googling i started to think what if the new E5300 does not support my Asus p5w dh deluxe mobo even though it is dual and qcore cpu mobo? I doubt that could be the case, but decided to ask before i purchase new mobo.

When i google stuff about my motherboard it only comes up with info like : supports-dual cores,q cores, doesn't say nothing about 45nm processors, which i presume could be the new ones? I haven't been fallowing HW a lot in last years so I am a bit in a blind right now.

Or is my default EE6600 2.4 ghz also 45nm processor and this shouldn't really matter?

Cheers

V.
