I have 2 hard drives, split into 7 partitions.
My C: drive is 7gb and is used for windows, and 'essential' progs (creative progs like photoshop, after effects etc goto D
My G: partition is 1.5gb, and is called 'Swapfile'
So, you can see where my system is configured, i set a 1024MB swap file on G:
My C: drive floats around 800mb - 1gb free space, and usually stays that way.
The other day, I got a pop-up saying that C: is low on space, I had a root around and found a pagefile.sys, which I deleted with no problems.
2 days later, I get the low on space message, and what did I find?
A pagefile.sys on C: and, no pagefile on G:
So I goto Virtual Memory settings, and it tells me there IS NO swapfile on C: and a 1024MB swapfile on G:
I can change values all I like, but it still puts a sytem controlled 1.2gb pagefile on C:, however, if I set a custom size on C:... say 512mb, It changes to that value, and I get some space back.
By the way, with no space on c: i cant stream videos, or play games as the no space box switches me back to desktop.
I searched the registry for 'pagefile' and found it to be saying 'g:\pagefile.sys 1024 1024' which is what Im supposed to be set at, but the swapfile is still stubbornly on c:
I can make any changes to virtual memory management, and they are ignored, unless I make changes to the swapfile on C:
So, my questions are thus.....
Why on earth is windows ignoring what I tell it?
Why is windows telling me one thing, yet doing another
And how can I fix it?? I dont want to reformat and start again
But, at the end of the day, I suppose I will have to
(Up until now, I dont use system restore, I can fix most things, and hard drive space is sacred to me, this is one of the strangest problems I have encountered)
I bring up the virtual memory settings, it tells me there is a 1024mb swap file on G: and none on C:, but i look at my disks, there is no pagefile.sys on G: and a 1.2gb one on C:, and no matter how many times I enter the correct settings, it still resides on C:
