problem with windows golf mk3

I have a problem with my rear windows on my golf, where the windows will not lift up, however it will go down. What could be the problem??

Are they manual or electric?

they are electric it is on a mk3 GTI

when you press up on the window switch does the solenoid make any sound?

yeh it makes a noise when i press the button but nothing goes up, when i press down however the window will go down. Will this mean i have to buy a new window mechanism or can it be fixed??

Ask some of the boys on Club GTI. There is no solenoid in there anyway.

yer i have been posting there but to no avail wondered if anyone else could help. I took it to a VW garage and they said that the mechanism is broken however after talking to a couple of mechanics they said it could be much simpler then that

is your username on there the same mate? I haven't got a copy of ETKA with me and so I can't really help you. Have another go on there mate - someone will know.

If it's anything like the mk4 (my window went like this), there are little plastic pins holding the window onto the "arm" that moves it up and down. These are designed to sheer off when met with any resistance (ie got your head stuck in there). Mine cost 125 quid at a main dealers to get sorted, so could be done for less.
