problem with xfx 5870 xxx ?

well checking around other places there loads of random crashes etc with this card.... and no problems with some.... seems theres some duff cards and I got one of them.... will see what XFX have to say.

It even crashing in windows desktop now doing nothing.... my first ATI card for years - not a good start.
 
Hmm now have a real dilema as have an Asus mono and one of these cards on back order (not from OC alas, another supposedly reputable e-tailed as needed it over the holiday period and they advertise it as in stock. Placed the order on the weekend and now say out of stock until 05/01 despite web-site saying in stock today!). Do I cancel this order now, are XFX cards a problem? If I have to wait I may as well wait for an Asus card or are there as many problems with these? Must confess I feel I've been duped over this order which is scandalous!
 
We'll google might be your friend! .... Google white screen / crashing.... It will come up 5850s as we'll and it don't seem to be just XFX... I think its a batch of bad cards hurried out. Ill update here though. XFX support on the case now.

There was talk of manually setting fans at 50% but this is loud and don't work for me.
 
Thanks, just spoken to other supplier and have cancelled my XFX order with them and now gone for a Saphire 5870 from OCUK instead. Oh how I wish I'd stuck with trusted OCUK in the first place!

Interestingly, other supplier advises that they have XFX XXX 5870 cards in stock but have ring fenced these because of the number of RMAs they are getting on these cards at the moment! Hope I don't live to regret my words but it sounds like there may well be a specific problem with a batch of XFX cards...
 
If you could email me via trust I'd appreciate the other suppliers name ;)

As I only ordered the XFX cos it was in stock.... Seems to make sense now. Everybody knew ro leave this one alone ;)

No I'm sure there is a load of these cards that work fine but you tend to only hear from the people with problems.

Hopefully ill get a replacement card that works and doesn't need to have fan set to motorbike noise to work..... My first xfx and ati.... Hmmm whens the new nvidias coming out ;)
 
nope - XFX have asked for different temps of my system etc.... I sent that to them... same day they advised RMA time.

i tried 850 1200

and still no joy.... thing is though might have just ordered the stock version if it wont run.... anyways its going back.... lets see how long it takes... have only ever dealt with BFG and that was a mobo.
