Problem with xp locking

Hi

I am trying to fix an odd problem with xp(sp2). It occasionaly freezes up, the mouse still moves and I click on the programs, but it will load nothing. Then all of a sudden it unfreezes and the programs load. Does anyone have any idea what it could be??

control-alt-delete this and check task managers processes to see which one is hogging the cpu<----- at least that's what it sounds like
