I received my XSPC RS360 kit yesterday and have unpacked it this evening - to have a check that all is well.

Disappointed to find that the copper base of the Raystorm CPU cooling block has a few marks on it , including a fingerprint or two

Tried cleaning off with both Akasa Tim cleaner and Iso Alcohol - neither had ANY effect.- It appears that the copper is marked BUT although it might look a little unsightly it looks and feels smooth. It has a slight convex look and feel to it - centre might be a tiny ,little, bit higher.

Should I be RMA 'ing or is this pretty normal and nothing to worry about?

Also surprised to find that the Raystorm does simply dismantle into 3 bits i.e.block , with clear plastic cover , with smaller metal cover on top - Normal?

It was new - Will look to organise return ,although I hope do not have to return the whole thing ; it's big.

Will have to see what ocuk want - hopefully they can swap out :)

n.b. thanks for the advise ref. the coming apart.

If you are happy with the block you could just use some brasso. I used it to clean up a raystorm block i got off a member on here.

That is the issue with exposed copper, they tarnish if you are not careful with how you handle them.
I learned the hard way when I touched a GPU core only block and despite many saying it is easy to remove, the marks are still there after many attempts(haven't tried brasso though)

Bit reluctant to 'Brasso' it - it being new and all.

Will ask ocuk and give it a go if ok'd

Does seem strange that somehow it appears that all the marks - fingerprints etc - are all 'below' the surface/ sheen.

Just a bit of a b...... really - bang go the plans for building this weekend :(

p.s. not sure what residue Brasso might leave !!!

Brasso will give a nice shine, then wipe it with ipa. Ive been using coollaboratory liquid metal paste on my cpu's/heatsink lately. It does leave a residue, fine on the heatsink base as i just wiped it off with a scouring pad and some brasso, (after a remount). But the 3570k i sold, i didnt scour it as to avoid wiping the info of the ihs. But it worked grand on the cooler base.

Tried the Brasso clean - Worked like a charm ; all marks and fingerprints removed , along with a large quantity, per the white cloth I used , of general muck!

Now shining very nicely :D

My thanks to all posters and in particular 'Something Else' - you Sir are a star !:)
