Problems Accessing Hard Drive

I have a SSD C: drive with Windows 10. I also have a standard 1TB hard drive which I use for general storage. The drive is partitioned to a D: and E: drive.

Recently I started getting errors in the E: drive when Windows was starting which became more regular and at one point I could not access the drive at all. The D: drive worked fine. Eventually I removed all of the folders from the E: drive and carried out a full format. The drive now works fine. However when I copied the folders back I copied some of them to the D: drive to balance the storage. I am now having problems with the D: drive. I can access it OK but cannot delete any of the files or folders. The problem appears to be caused by a file or folder that was on previously the E: drive and is now on the D: drive. When I try to delete unwanted files or folders I get the message, "can't read from the source file or disk" Can any one help me resolve this and find the rogue files or folder?

Any help would be appreciated.

E: drive probably have corrupted file system. Same thing happened to me few years ago.

Open Terminal (Admin) and run chkdsk D: /f /r, when it completed and repaired then run chkdsk E: /f /r to repair corrupted file system. After that you will able to delete files or folders on E: drive.

Alrwady done all that. Ran multiple tests and 1TB HD is goosed. Spec me a replacement for storage. I have a 250 GB SSD for Windows and I am using about 400 GB of my nackered 1TB drive for storage. Unlikely to ever need more than 1TB for general quick access storage.

It’s probably going to be a matter of opting each folder one by one, accessing it and finding which one is causing the problem.

There’s not an automatic way as far as I know to find broken folders.

You have no backups at all?
