Hi,
My neighbour bought a Dell computer with Vista pre-installed. She hated Vista so asked me to install XP on it. So today I installed Windows XP. The install went fine until she tried to install her isp. XP could not detect the modem/router.

Any suggestions pls?

I have no idea who the hardware manufacturers are.

I think Google is your friend with this issue. I don't think it should be too hard searching for the drivers. It's bound to be compatible with Windows XP. Does she have the router's installation disk?

Those look like firmware for flashing the router. You shouldn't need to install any pc drivers to connect to a router. How are you trying to connect? Cat5, wireless or possibly the only time you would need a driver is if you're connecting via usb cable.

Have you installed any chipset/sound/lan drivers for the Dell?

I remember when i was on tesco broadband (laughs). my router was speedtouch and it was hard to find drivers. if you cant find it contact the ISP and they'l give you a link to the drivers or send a disc.

She doesn't need any drivers other than those for her computer's network adapter (if they're not installed already). It's nothing to do with the router and nothing to do with her ISP.

Speedtouch usb modem would require drivers. A router with inbuilt modem is something completely different and works independently of any computer connected to it.

Email the thomson help desk with the model of your modem and the OS, they may (should if they're worth their salt) be able to help.

Again it's a router, not a USB modem. The only drivers needed are those for her computer's network adapter - nothing to do with Thomson.

This model (ST585v6) is a modem-router. It does not require drivers unless you connect it through USB port (if any exists in this device). So everything you need is to connect it to computer's LAN port (using device's any Ethernet socket), to DSL line (using device's socket) and switch on computer and then the device. XP doesn't show any additional device, but networking card would acquire IP address given by router by default's DHCP protocol, if you didn't change the settings.
Internet should work just like that, but you have to log into device through any web-browser and disable WLAN connections, or secure it if you are going to unplug Ethernet cable and use Wifi card.
P.S. If it is her first Internet voyage (no previous network package), so modem should be registered & initialized by some ISPs. Some of them give a CD with appropriate software, but you can do it youreslf as well, if you have a manual with address which you should use in your web-browser -> and when site appears you put your details there, click OK and internet is unlocked.
