OK recently bought a 290 r9 and a Samsung 128 ssd. I reformatted and installed windows 7 after installation of the gfx drivers windows boots to desktop with no icons, no taskbar and when I Ctrl at del the screen goes black and there is no way out apart from turning it off. I originally thought this was a ssd problem after i had already used the 290 in the PC hours before installing the ssd so after searching around I come across the ahci option, so I decided to try that hoping it may help my problem. It only made it worse, when I'm lucky it'll post after hanging on the loading operating system screen for about 30 seconds other wise it doesn't even post and crashes at the ahci detection screen. I've reset my bios so no oc's etc I'm now memtesting. In don't know what to do...

Please help!!!

PC is: i5 750
Gigabyte p55 ud3l
2*2 ripjaw cl 8
900 watt tagan 2 force 2
Samsung 840evo 120gb
AMD 290 r9

Did you install your ssd with the hdd disconnected?
If not, try a new install with ACHI enabled and disconnect the hdd.

What about Windows repair, have you tried that?
If that does`nt work, only other thing I can suggest is, remove the Gpu driver and try an earlier version, if there is one.

I can't get past the achi check to get that far. I have to reset my bios every time I set it to that. Ram is fine after 10 hours of mem86

Figured out the problem with the graphics card. Although still can't make my mobo get passed the achi check, (despite achi working with my Samsung 1tb mechanical HDD) it detects 6 ports, 3 drives but breaks after the 4th line. The ssd boots fine in my friends PC and is detected when I plug it in while windows is running.
