Hello all,

Have been wrestling with my new build all day, finally started to install windows and now a real problem. The computer was restarting to continue the install when it all went wrong.

When I press the power button one of the case fans start spinning and a harddrive whirrs but that's it. The CPU fan, other case fan and graphics card don't power up and as a result won't post. This happened a couple of times earlier on but I put it down as some electrical gremlins as the computer soon fired into life. But now nothing. The one case fan that does work I suspect does so because it's connected directly to the power supply rather than the motherboard, if it's plugged into the mobo it doesn't power up either.

I suspect it's a motherboard or psu problem, all power plugs are firmly connected.

Spec:
Intel i5 2500k
Gigabyte ga-z68ap-d3
8gb kingston ram
Crucial m4 ssd
Seasonic M12 600w

Does anyone have any good ideas?

Well if the fan powers up when connected to the PSU and not the Mobo... would sort of indicate the motherboard.

All the pins are of course in if you got as far as installing Windows.

Double check the 8-pin EPS next to CPU and the 24pin.

Thanks for your reply. I will pull the mobo out again and re-connect everything just to make sure.

I am so annoyed, this was supposed to be a pre christmas treat for myself. But now I suspect it's going to be ages before I can get this sorted, this isn't the best week for urgent posting of things.

Computers are always a nightmare. They break more often than they work sometimes!

Just take a break from it, have a drink or four. Go back to it with a fresh mind and have another rattle.

If all else fails. Have another drink :p

I had another crack at it this morning, took everything apart then plugged it all back in and huzzah it worked! I've no idea what was wrong, everything was properly connected. But I'm just pleased it works now.

Thanks for your advice chaps.
