Problems installing ATi Drivers

Friend of mine has a 3 year old laptop (Core Duo T2300/1GB/Mobility X1400/XP) and is having problems installing the latest ATi drivers. Tried installing 8.6s from ATi website but it says "We can't install these software updates on your system, please contact your manufacturer"

Anyone had this before? He says he has tried unistalling previous version but no matter what he does it comes up with the same message.


PS - Its in French, so not the exact message plus its an Acer

They may have to get the drivers direct from their laptops manufacturer, as ATi don't support them all.

He says he thinks he tried the Acer website graphic drivers before, will give it another go.

The Acer ones probably are the same ones as the originals. Notebook support is normally really poor, although you can also find modded versions of the normal drivers around.
