Hi

Ok trying to install this card onto windows XP SP2 and whenever I start installation it gets to about 70% then it freezes and I have to reboot. If I let windows try and install I get an error message saying the hardware doesnt meet Windows Logo Testing ? Any ideas ? Thanks

Hi Thanks for reply

Not tried another slot yet (only have one more option as His IceQ X1900 cooler fan takes out one slot on my Asus A8V-E board... bios 1012 latest ver.). I have tried downloading different drivers for my card but the system stills hangs/freezes and in the end after so many failed attempts I had to do a safe boot and system restore to get computer working. Down side is this card is an OEM version and with that you seem to get little or NO support from Soundblaster.

I have emailed them the card details in hope if nothing else.

doesn't meet windows logo testing means ms haven't signed off the driver themselves, (most of my hardware uses not signed drivers and works fine)

i think the manufacturers have to pay MS to do the signing for them, so a lot of the time they dont bother

just click 'continue anyway'

I have done and about 70% of the way through the installation the computer freezes and requires a reset/reboot. Uninstalled old Ac97 drivers and disabled onboard sound as well in bios before trying to install.

mmm similar problem here.

Got mine today *xtreme music* installed, fine. Noticed wasnt an icon in control panel but hey.

Clicked dvd audio something or other, blue screened.

Came home just and none of the control panels open (missing dll's the works)
Can't uninstall the software anyhow?
Move it one slot down re install, now its not been seen :/

windows auto hardware updat'ed the "multimedia device" and now control panels are working :)

There seems to be a lot and i do mean LOT of compatibility problems with the x-fi sound cards . Ive spent the better part of tonight reading forums .. even Creatives own forum is full of issues. Tomorrow Im going to slip this into my E6600 Gigabyte rig and see how it goes .... if ! it goes

Aint got a round to trying the e6600 rig yet but had another go at this computer. This time tried the bottom PCI slot and also downloaded the drivers again from Creative website without any success , got to 70% again and computer locked/froze. Least this time I didnt have to system restore. :(

My X-Fi was fine on my previous build but is problematic on my current one.

When I update the drivers my system also hangs and the installation fails, followed by a BSoD. Then I uninstall, remove the card, replace the X-Fi and reinstall and it works! :p

It works better for me on the lowest slot, as is the case for many people. In some games (notably Age of Mythology and Half-Life 2) I get annoying popping and crackling sounds at certain stages. This seems to be a problem with all X-Fi's in certain mobos and I doubt it will ever be properly remedied. Updating to the latest BIOS and Creative drivers certainly didn't help...

Overall though I'm happy with the card. 99% of the time it works fine and when it does the sound quality is superb. If you can get one at the right price, it's a great sound card. You just have to put up with inperfections which at times are annoying.

Id be happy to even hear a pop right now ...

I need a SC, but with all this X-Fi I would want to borrow a X-Fi first, as it also has problems with 3200 chipset! No way would I buy a new one as you won't get a refund (it's not actually faulty)

So if you want to give yours away :p

alls working here, but im scared to click dvd audio player incase it bluescreens again :(

Holy crud, just got HOOK on dvd, and my god it sounds amazing!

anyway, yeah. ingame sounds a bit odd atm, goto twiddle with some settings but apart form that everythings ok now :)

isnt there a 14 day money back law thing?

7 day. Depends on the company T&C, but could be one or more of the following

You have to pay return postage
Pay admin/restocking fee

Former definite, latter some try it out usually once you complain to visa they drop the fee. Thing is if it's "partially faulty" ie a TV buzzing they'll confirm it, but something like a soundcard where it doesn't work on yours, but works on another is hard to proove. It's not actually faulty, I'm not sure if 7 day DSR allows return on non faulty items, just because you don't want it. Personally if it's not faulty you shouldn't have bought it in the first place and should be refused a refund if you've opened it.

Ok back again .... FAILED ! Tried installing on a new computer ... the Gigabyte SD3 with the Intel Core Duo E6600 processor. this was with a clean install of windows Xp from only the other day. New hardware found but I cancelled windows installing it and instead used the drivers that i downloaded from the link stormy13 posted. Everything seem to be working fine until it got the part where it said it was updating windows drivers please wait ... well I waited and waited and waited ... mouse cursor wouldnt move no harddrive activity system had froze and I had to reboot. Upon rebooting new hardware logo came up in taskbar and once again system froze. Powered off and removed soundcard. Guess now I wait on email back from Creative and I see if I can RMA it. :(

Sorry some of this wont make sense (download link etc) as I cut and pasted from another forum Ive been asking for help on.

Hhm, was considering buying one of these cards on my next upgrade. Not sure now.

What other SC's are recommended? Specifically I want something that takes the work-load completely off the CPU. (sorry for the threadjack btw)

Sounds like a faulty card then, get it replaced and see if the replacement does the same. The X-Fi is quite a step up from the Audigy 2/4 so it's worth another try before looking for another card.

Hi Phil

Just to keep you all updated on this.... I had another go at installing on the Gigabyte SD3 board ... tried a different PCI slot (slot 1 doesnt share with anything else according to bios) whenever I got to desktop windows detected new hardware then shutdown and rebooted ! This kept happening until I powered off and removed card.
