Right I've currently got Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit installed but wanting to install Vista Home Premium 64-bit but theirs a problem.

So i boot from the CD it loads a few things untill it gets to the starting screen however i cant see anything only the greeny pattern background assosicated with Vista and with a mouse cursor and nothing else and I've tried a dozen times but the same thing happens so i obviuosly cant install it. I've tried clicking the Installer from My Computer however sais something about it being 64 bit blah, I also tried running it in Administrator mode, same thing.

Anyone got any idea's, Thanks in Advance.

Hey truebluecfc, you wont be able to install a 64bit Operating System within a 32bit Operating System, so the error that you are getting is normal.

Now you shoulden`t have any problems when trying to boot of the Windows Vista DVD. When it come`s up with the "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD", once you have and then Vista`s background loads up, how long are you waiting?

I know when i install Vista on my machine it does actaully take quite a while for the box to appear so you can contiune with the installation process. :)

I've installed it 3 times before so i'm familiar with the installation process although this is the first time where I've installed Vista 64bit whilst having Vista 32bit installed as i normally format when it asks in the installation wizard.

Yeh i waited long enough ~30mins'ish.

you may want to try uninstalling vista home by using the vista home cd and then doing a fresh install of vista 64, vista 32 bit will try and run the installer program in 32-bit mode, which is maybe why its giving that message.

better off just doing a fresh install, make sure to back up any importent files, or if you only have the one hard drive put your files on a seperate partition and load windows on the other partition.

Well first off the usual grey bar which goes from left to right then the little green bars for a few seconds to which it then goes to a screen where its got a greeny background like the Vista desktop background sort off, it has a mouse cursor and doesnt crash as i can keep moving the cursor after 30 mins just no options for me to click if that makes sense.

My plan was doing that, I only tried starting the installating wizard from My Computer because i had the problem mentioned above.

I'll try with the 32bit disk to format then try the 64 bit disc and see if it installs, thnx for the input.

Well I just tried it with the 32 bit Vista and the same things happening although this time something strange happened. The first time i did it got an error message which said something along the lines of Somethings not connected to your computer and something about an I/O shield so i restarted and didnt the the error message but go the above problem.
