Problems overclocking 6300

I've been trying some overclocking.
I tried 7 x 300 and that was fine. Played CSS for an hour no problem.

I just tried 7 x 350 and the computer would not boot. The cpu fan just spun! The bios reverted to stock speed (7 x266).

I decided to try 7 x 333. The computer booted fine. But then rebooted 5 minutes later. I had time to get some screen dumps from cpuz and speedfan, though.

Any advice as to why this is happening?

I've over-volted memory by +0.2v. I changed my memory timings to 4 4 4 12. I haven' changed anything else.

I read another guide and it said to do the following.

Go into the Advanced BIOS Features section and set the following to Disabled:
- Limit CPUID Max. to 3
- CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
- CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2)
- CPU EIST Function

Is this correct?

Your ram is running 4:5 = 1040mhz

You will be lucky to get it stable there tbh

Go into bios and set memory 1:1 then you should be good for at least 400 fsb ;)

Cool.

Now enable cpu host clock control and work your way up.

I would try 400 to start (as it seems your ram will work at that speed from above post) and see how it goes from there. I would also tighten up a bit to 4-4-4-12

Good luck

edit

What ram is that exactly? difficult to tell from spd.

GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB6400UDC) (MY-057-GL)
GeIL is proud to announced DDR2 800MHz, PC6400 800MHz supports CAS 4-4-4-12 with 1GB and 2GB Dual Channel Kits. These Ultra modules are hand picked for maximum FSB overclocking potential.

- PC6400 800MHz CAS 4-4-4-12
- 64x8 DDR2 BGA Chips
- 240pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered DDR2 SDRAM DIMM
- Aluminum Heat-spreader
- 6 Layers Ultra Low Noises Shielded PCB
- Lifetime Warranty
- 1.9V-2.3V Power Supply

There seems to be a problem.

I wanted to change the fsb to 400. When I rebooted the computer in order to get to the bios, the screen went blank, and the cpu fan went to full speed. The computer just sat like that until I pressed the restart button on the case.

Then it reboots at 1.86 Ghz!

What cpu voltage?
I set mine to 1.35
Also what cooling on cpu?

Then start at say 350 and work up.

Also look in easytune and see what ram voltage you see.
Your sticks are rated up to 2.3v which (if the default is 1.8v) would be +0.5 in bios. Not sure what the default is so chech what you have set already in bios against easytune to make sure.

This overclocking lark is not an exact science so find where you are stable and work up from there. Once you understand your bios (not easy on DS3/DS4) then read the overclocking sticky on this forum which will explain a lot better than I can about how to find max on cpu and mem.

Hope this helps mate

Have you updated the DS3 BIOS yet?

And set the ram voltage to +3. That's the Geils recommended voltage (2.1v).

I'm on F4. Having trouble upgrading to f5 though.

I had already changed the RAM to +.2, but will change to .3 to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks

RAM voltage = 2

CPU voltage = 1.31

I'm using a Zalman HSF with artic silver paste.

Set the ram voltage to 2.1 or 2.2 and start at 350. Test for stability and then if OK just work your way up (watching temps) from there.

Remembering to set voltages you want then boot into windoze. Close down and then set speed as required.

Trying to change it all at once will sometimes cause trouble.

Good luck!

I tried +0.3 (2.1v) on my memory.
I set the fsb 400.
I've got my memory set on 4 4 4 12.

Rebooted to xp and all was fine. @ 2.8Ghz

I thought i'd try a restart. Screen went blank. Fans on full. System hangs. I press restart on the case and i'm back to 1.8Ghz.

Computer obviously doesn't like something. Any ideas?

You may have found the max for one component?
More likely is you need the newer bios.

I'm on DS4 so don't really know which one to recommend. Have a search throgh the DS3 overclocking thread mate.
