Hi guys,

Just bought a new system, wish I didn't now... all I have had is problems, now its to the point of throwing the whole £1500 in the bin cos getting a massive headache over this.

First, had major problems with hdds. Was getting a weird noise coming from the hdds, a clicking noise. Its known to be a problem called the 'click of death' and took 12 hours to format and install windows. I'm sending them back to the place I've bought them from, hopefully get them replaced.

Secondly, once everything has been installed and I was getting a major problem with temp. Started playing a game of css with everything at max. The game looks lovely, then all of the sudden the comp started to freeze every 5 mins for 2-5 secs. Even when I left the game, I was still experiencing this problem in desktop until i restarted my system.

Temp:
GPU - 70-80
CPU - 45
System - 50

As I experienced this problem, I decided to uninstalled both mb/gfx drivers and install the latest available (was using drivers that came with the mb/gfx) and hopefully sort the problem out.

After restart, I was unable to use both keyboard and mice, and wasn't able to go no further than the windows login screen. This went on for a hour and in the end, had enough and thought lets format and start again.

When I put the windows disc in the drive, and tried loading the disc, the computer couldn't find the disc and when the drive wasn't reading the disc properly, and unable to locate certain files, it forced windows setup to crash/reboot.

Now, computer is useless... friends advised me that flash the bios and hopefully get me back to normal and start again.

Is this a hardware prob or something wrong with the bios?

I have done a memory check with the ram and seems fine but the mystery is the unable use of keyboard and mice, how come this wasn't working as I only uninstalled the gfx drivers, nothing more...

Hope someone can help, if not... comp out window!

System:
Intel wolfdale 3.16
8800GTX
4GB ram
EVGA 780i mb

Maybe clear the BIOS, with your luck flashing it is not advised
Temps are not too bad, maybe look at a bit more case cooling though.
If it is a new system I'd be tempted to get it collected & a refund, not your problem to sort out the hardware.

A new system as in bought parts and put together. I have bought from 2 companies, overclockers and another.

I'm getting some advice, but I'm so out of date, haven't kept in touch with computers and the new equipment.

Cleared Bios and tried going into windows, still the same... unable to use both keyboard and mice, no moved at all.

Decided to try to format the computer.

first time, floppy drive failed (no idea why it does this!) and then next time it was okay. Tried installing windows (finally!) and got a message appear this:

file \i386\c_437nls could not be loaded.

The error code is 14.

Cannot continue with setup. blah blah.

My friend reckons could be memory, but did a memory test and seems okay, any suggestions?

From the very early begini sounds like mobo problem to me ...
Try gettin mobo from a friend maybe or get ** other components ( cpu, gpu, ram) and check at his PC.

If you cant do that, then I got no idea ;], did you try diff keyboard ? or tried your keyboard at other pc ?

Unfortunately, I can't test it at present... unless I take it to some shop and get them to test it for me. Cost me a arm and a leg, but no other way testing the equipment.

The keyboard and mice lights are on, just not responding... keyboard works fine in bios.

As from tomorrow, getting my hdds and motherboard picked up and tested. I just hope it is the motherboard, would save me a lot of bother.

hmm could really be anything but i would try and do a bios update, check hdds in another pc and gfx , ram etc like you said you are going to. maybe install up to date chipset drivers (and etc). check any compatability problems there may be. or perhaps reset the heatsink for cpu. do you have a ps2 keyboard/mouse ?

First, had major problems with hdds.
this could be why apps are taking ages to load and reason why your pc is freezing and then unfreezing as its having difficulty reading files...

Temp:
GPU - 70-80
CPU - 45
System - 50

are these load or idle temps?

did you try installing windows on a different hard drive - one you know is working fine..

Never know HDD or freezing problems due to bios errors hmmm

file \i386\c_437nls could not be loaded.
- this could be an error due to corrupt harddrive (basically certain key window files have not been installed properly or alternatively are sometimes read and sometimes not read due to your corrupt hdd) which could also be the cause of your machine randomly freezing...

I'm sending the hardware back to the company I've bought them from, their collecting the parcels tomorrow morning... fingers cross!

My hdds were a previous fault. I had them taken out ages ago... they were seagate 750gb. They took around 12hrs to format and install windows. I had 3 hard drives (inc. new ones) to test problem. The other hdd is my previous maxtor from my other pc before this one... about a year old, had no probs before.

Errors occurred when I was about to format pc, when windows checks everything and about to format/install windows. Errors happened then, not during or after format/install.

I was getting probs with cd-rom and floppy getting noticed, took about 4-5 attempts when the computer finally noticed they were there...

With the temp, thats after gaming... idling mainly, after a while the temp did decrease about -10.

Well, dunno... what made me think it's the motherboard was the fact that I was unable to move keyboard and mice after uninstalling both mb and gfx and that it kept having problems locating both cd-rom & floppy.

Hi guys,

News: Apparently the 2x seagate hdds I sent to them were faulty and they were preparing 2 more seagate to replace those dodgy clicking hdds.

With the motherboard situation, apparently they're saying the motherboard is fine, no problems at all. I've asked them possible problems that could cause errors that I have received. Hopefully I'll get more info tomorrow. If not, I'll ring them tomorrow or monday.

Right, still testing parts... my friend took the gfx card to try on his system and found that it was okay, nothing wrong with it.

I'm ordering my new case next week, getting the Antec 1200 and on thursday, hopefully I'll have all my parts back. We'll put everything back in and see what the outcome is.

I think it's down to 2 parts (CPU & Mem), unless we're missing something.
