Hi guys, maybe someone has had similar problems and can help.

I've only ever tried setting up xbox live once before and i thought it wouldnt work as the cable wouldn't stretch so I thought if I run the xbox cable from the xbox to a coupler which would connect to the cable coming out from my computer, but it didn't work.

I've now moved my room around a little to try again and I'm able to unplug the ethernet cable running into my computer and plug it into my xbox, but when I run the test it still says "disconnected" Why is this? Surely it would work, as it's just the same as plugging the cable you get with the xbox into the router.

I was considering buying the xbox 360 wireless adapter, but I don't want to blow £60 on something just to get the same "disconnected" message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The cable that I had going from the router to the computer, is now going straight from the router to the xbox as I couldn't be bothered putting another hole in the wall to have a cable for each.

So it's pretty much like i've plugged my xbox into the router.

Sorry to bump, but does anyone have any ideas? I'm going to pick up a wireless adapter after work and don't want to waste 60 quid if it doesn't work.

Yeah, the only thing would be the actual IP of the xbox in the settings, would I just assign it something in the router's range that isn't already being used?

When I get home after work i'll try poking a bigger hole through the wall and use the cable that came with the xbox.
