So i recently got a new case, psu, fans and xfx 6850
the psu is a OCz stealth 600W
The problem is the graphics card. I put it in and installed the latest drivers etc from the amd website. Everything worked fine for a bit, played a bit of team fortress 2 and it was all good. Then when I tried to open Empire total war the display cut out, i tried to reboot but i get as far as the windows loading screen then it goes black and my monitor ( connected via HDMI)says there is no video input. I then have to crash the computer to get it going but ever time i try load windows with the graphics card it it fail. I have gone back to the on board graphics , cleared all the old graphics drivers in accordance withe the explanation on the AMD website and tried to re-install the graphics card, and i get the same experience boots first time and then fails when ever i restart after i install the drivers
i have tried everything i can think of and tried it all again and i have no idea so i am in need of help.
Mobo is us0000372http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?ID=en-us0000372
Thanks
Andrew

Make sure the power cable is securely fitted to the card.

Try a different 6 pin power cable from the PSU if it has one.

Take the graphics card out and re-seat it in the slot.

ok i will try the other 6 pin i have reinstalled the card about 6 times because if i want the pc to get into windows i need to take out the card and connect up the onboard vga graphics :(

tried that and a new install of the drivers and it now gets to the same point but instead of just going blank it flashes a BSOD and then reboots before i can see anything on the BSOD

Right click on My Computer and select properties.

Select advanced system settings.

Click on the advanced tab.

Click on settings for startup and recovery.

Remove the tick box from system failure - automatically restart.

You'll now be able to make a note of the BSOD information.

it worked ok i just re-formatted the partition linux was on but still no differance, iam starting to think that it might be the card thats broken or something with the HDMI as others seem to have the same problem when using the HDMI. Unfortunately i dont have any other cables thatt would work with the card

ok tryed running in safe mod, using the driver swepper and then reinstall and still i get the BSOD
it says...

System service exception ( etc )

it says at the end
atikmag.sys adress FFFFFA60050AB894
any help ?

yeah at the bottom of the big post it says BSOD mean you have a differant problem that is likley hardware, so iam thinking that i will have to get on to XFX and get a new one sent out as i think this one muct be dodgy

ended up fixing it by manually selecting the driver to install and doing it through windows device manager and it seems to work fine, must be something with the way catalyst installs its drivers
