Problems with Asus X99-S

Sounds good. You tried re seating the cpU? If you have ram issues still. X99 is crazy prone to being all around glitchY. Especially X99 s and deluxe Asus boards. What make ram is it?
 
I found Gigabyte X99 SOC Force To be nightmarish for glitchs but the ASUS X99 S though better in some ways still has its fair share problems. Intel needs to put a lot more work into the Haswell-E platform.
 
Am reluctant to say it - may be tempting fate! - but it has been stable since the update of the bios and , the usual re-set @ 125 x 33.
Except that the first time of boot it decided to switch itself rather than boot - which was , I hope ,an isolated incident (it has not happened since).
Will be crossfire ' ing this weekend and am hopeful that it will be fine. If it is will then get on with the watercooling(which I had hoped to have up and running in early January!)
Ram is 16gb Geil Evo Potenza 2666. Ran very well in the Msi and does now appear stable in the Asus.
Main flaws I have found and have read about relate to flaky , if not downright 'rubbish', USB 3 slots . Even with the new board I had to re-distribute before it would play (basically best to try to use the usb 2 and then the usb 3 - although this may just be the case that I was lucky and re-distributing may not work every time).
Would definitely agree that more work should have been put in by Intel/Motherboard builders before release!!
Anyway hopefully mine will be glitch free from now on (or at least for most of the time) - but am keeping the Msi for now 'just in case!!!'
 
Crossfire 290's installed :)

Only issues were :-

a) When first booting after install it started but turned off before booting into bios/windows - exactly what happened when I added hardware before so may be part of standard operation:confused:
b) Real pain to install due to the situation of the usb 3 connector at the bottom of the board - the Corsair case usb3(front) cable is a little bulky and the bottom of the gpu (xfx dd290) 'hits' the usb cable connector.
Answer was to lose usb 3 at the front of the case so that the gpu seats correctly.(I tried with it in to find that the 2nd gpu was not being 'seen' as it was not fully slotted home and the pins in the usb connector were being bent). Overall NOT a problem for me as I will be watercooling both gpu's but for those wanting to run sli/crossfire be wary if you have 2 slot cards :(

Am pleased- fastest score on Heaven for me ever 2464 and nither gpu is overclocked & no overheating of either gpu (which was the case with the Msi board and the top gpu)

Here is hoping that it remains stable :)- watercooling in a couple of weeks!!

Thats normal, as mine does it everytime i switch on, it comes on for a split second, before going back off, then it comes back on again and boots, i forgot what it is though, might be some sort of selftest :)

I have a memory ,some years old, of an Asus ( I think) board which every time one switched the machine on it ran for a few seconds , switched itself off and then re-started without any input from me.- I do believe that this was the board putting itself through a test.

With this it is more the case, so far anyway, that when I add new parts it does it Excepting that now it starts runs for a few seconds and then stops; I then have to re-press the start button.(would observe that I am not overly patient so did not give it too long before I pressed start again - so it is possible that it might have re-started by its self.)

Not been repeated since but will keep an eye.
 
I always found USB 3.0 ports very unreliable for using with mouse/keyboard regardless of the board. USB 2.0 ports always solve the problem.
 
I have recently gotten a Asus X99-S board and have had major issues with the USB2 and USB3 ports.

I have the latest BIOS and have installed windows at least 3 times. The best I can get is that I have to unplug all of my USB2 joysticks, Thrustmaster Warthog and Fanatec pedals from the main board at boot otherwise the whole machine will lock up on boot.

It will boot with no problems if I keep them unplugged, then plug them in after boot. I can plug them into USB3 or USB2 after boot with no issues, just not have them connected at boot. Tried everything in the BIOS and clean installs. Nada.

Also noticed the Win7 start up animation freezes on every boot in time with the keyboard being given and lost power during the start up phase.

what outstanding x99 issues do potential x99 purchasers need to look out for?

Hi,

Makes sure USB boot is set to fully initialised under boot options and see if the problem persists. There are issues with certain legacy devices

This is one of the biggest problems with the X99 boards from Asus. Which Bios are you on the latest one has fixed some of the issues.
