Hi guys. I'm having problems with pretty much all the comms programs i use such as Skype, teamspeak, raidcall and mumble. When just talking away my sound for the program will go but i can still hear game sounds and my internet is still working because the games i'm playing are online. Do you have any ideas what could cause this and how to resolve it? Thanks in advance.

Not quite sure what your getting at but have a look at the sounds option in control panel under communications tab and try clicking "do nothing".

Yeah it's already set to "do nothing". I'll try and explain better. I'll be talking using one of the mentioned programs and then for about 10 seconds i wont be able to hear anyone even though they are speaking and then the sound will come back. I can still hear sounds from games and other sources during that time and it's not my internet timing me out i dont think because i'm still able to play.

Yeah it depends on your individual connections and the particular route your call takes through the interwebs.

What are both your internet speeds? Both up and down.

Does it only happen with one person?

Is it international? Some countries just have terrible international peering arrangements.

To get an idea of the routing quality between you, you could try running pings or a traceroute to each other.

Skype and real-time communication applications are very susceptible to even minor spikes. Could even be that the other person is loading a page for a few seconds which could cause Skype to lose it's bandwidth.

I get about 10mb down and 0.5 up. it happens when talking to anyone i think. the calls aren't international.

Makes me wonder if you have a device (typically router) with QoS active but functioning incorrectly. Check to see if there's any issues regarding your router and software like Skype.

DG834 ADSL router would start throttling packets sometimes under those circumstances (mostly when host in COD4/MW2 and also on voice) if Denial of Service protection was on with too agressive settings (default).
