Problems with display new DGM MONITOR

I have just bought a DGM 27" display to plug into my dell dimension 9150 via the supplied dvi cable.

brick okay powers up nicely and light on monitor red for stand by and blue when powered.

My problem is when I switch my computer on it comes up with he windows XP page with the scrolling bar then once that is finished I get a black screen with no display on it.
Tried the dvi cable the other way round and still the same.

Is it because my dell is too old and not powerful to power the screen or have I got another problem?.

What GFX card are you using? It may not have a dual link dvi port.

It is a 512mb graphics card that came with the computer 6 years ago from dell.
I tried plugging in the old not fully pinned dvi cable that I used with my old monitor and it did the same got to the page saying Xp with the scrolling bar after that the screen just goes black with no display even though you can still hear the computer running.
Hopefully my new computer will arrive today and I will give it a try and see what happens.
