Having some issues and I would like some advice if possible its probably me being petty but i would like some reassurance.

I was employed in January as an IT apprentice for a school

Studing a course on MCSE and MCITP Server 2008

Which is what the Job Description stated.

I was then told I would be rotated around the departments (food, science and reprographics) then being titled a "general technician"

After that didn't go to plan and i was brought up to the local base of helpdesk in the school to help with menial tasks it has now come down to this.

I have now been told that i will be sitting in on classrooms helping the kids if they having any problems.

Probably like "OMG Y U NO Work Excel" or teaching kids how to open calculator.

Now to me thats gone from what I used to do, mainly fixing laptops and changing a cable here and there. To basically an LSA.

Just really up for some advice on what I should do.

Im not happy at all at the moment with what im currently doing and I would like to do more technical based things, being a LSA is not one of them.

I have been here 6 months ish now. I have CCNA and A+ and am taking the 70-685 tomorrow.

Do you guy reckon if I leave I would have enough Skills and Experience to get an entry level job?

What would you guys do?

Sorry for the long wall of text just need some opinions and advice.

Thanks.

Similar thing happened to me in my old job. I left the company as they couldn't keep ANY promises they made me. Definitely feel better for leaving but finding a new job has been difficult.

if they keep moving you its likely you don't know enough to be of any use and they cannot be bothered / dont have time to teach you...

stay at teh job, read the book, do the exams, look for another job quietly...

This happened to a guy I went to college with, he ended up from Tech support to almost a Janitorial role.
He got his name in with an agency asap and ended up with 1st line somewhere and worked his way up from there.

I'd leave. Why on Earth would you become CCNA, A+ and MCITP certified, to not even utilise these skills by just sitting in a classroom day in, day out? You can make a lot more of yourself in my opinion.

That is rather odd if you started off fixing PCs and now are babysitting. Is that sort of thing one of your duties in your contract? I'd sit down with the boss and say you aren't being given the job you signed up for.

If you're getting an NVQ out of it then just complete it as soon as possible and gtfo.

Finish your apprenticeship first I would, although theres nothing stopping you applying for stuff.

The way its going im going to leave here in a years time from now with no relevant experience, they werent ready for an apprentice and i feel if i dont find myself something better i would have wasted my time. I think I shall get myself suited up and get down to reed.

E: on phone forgive my awful grammar and typing.

Clearly they want a classroom assistant who's able to fix things when they break, If you have no problem with that fine, but it sounds like you want more.

You could easily get a job on a helpdesk and into first line, with the qualifications you have and a decent attitude you'd be into second line fairly quickly too if you applied yourself. Go for it!
