problems with my new Nvidia GTX 760

OK its now booting up about as quick as it was before, like it fixed itself, i timed it 1 min 13 seconds.

Can anybody tell me how its possible to get in safe mode now, not that i need to but for future reference? F8 is boot devices.

I'm going to get a refund on the 760 :(

im so confused by this thread, i can offer one solution that will ensure whether its a card issue or a driver issue. download the latest driver to a usbstick, fresh install windows/format. cut the internet connection when its installing. Then once in desktop install the latest driver from the usb stick, this should rule out the issue and pinpoint the culprit id say. Will install the fresh driver without windos interfering and will also ensure no stagnant drivers were left on your windows. If you havent got a spare cd and you have more than one usb stick (4gb or more) theres a tool to install windows to that to install it onto your pc

Sorry to hear you had problems with motherboard bios update, The new bios might have wiped all the settings in the bios itself, You can try all the F keys to see what they do.

It could be that your motherboard just cannot take any 760 / 770 / 780 cards, but as long as you get your refund :)

Have you tried using another nvidia driver apart from their newest release? Ive seen a few people talking about black screens with the latest driver so it could be worth a try. Here is a link to some from a couple of months back that are more stable. Link

The reason the PC might have taken ages to start is that the nvidia driver instillation sounds like it is happening when you start up and you will get a black screen due the the driver being faulty and not completing the install process properly.

  • Start in safe mode.
  • Un install nvidia drivers from control panel programs and features list.
  • Delete contents of the Nvidia folder in the C: drive since this is the location the nvidia installer is and from where it runs at start up causing the black screen.
  • Restart pc.
  • Install drivers from this link.
