Problems with new kit

If you're not getting any memory error code beeps when you turn on the pc with no memory installed, it's either another dodgy mainboard or could possibly be the cpu. More than likely board though. Definately worth trying a different cpu just to confirm.

interestingly, when i built a quad core system for my m8, i had only plugged in the 4pin atx power connector, wouldnt power on like you have said. Once i had put in the extra 4 pin after removing the blanking plate Bingo... on my pc, my ati would only power on the monitor from the one dvi out, not either like my nvidias.

You need to plug in both 4 pin connects to the mobo, or it will just spin up and sit there, no beeps or anything.

so the 24pin main power needs to go in :D the 2x4pin atx above the cpu needs to go in.

PLUS the power to the GFX, x2 if they are there.

check the motherboard if not pwr, gpu and mem - use retail heatsink so u dont need to hastle with paste. put nice grease when you fixed problem :)

I had a similar problem where it was trying to boot but my RAM insisted on 2.2volts so just used a cheap stick and worked fine then just altered voltage, tried this?

Just checked my motherboard manual. I think i've found the problem... Is it possible that the motherboard doesn't support my RAM?

as listed above, the ram I have is: Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C6 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX8500AD2K24G)

The Kingston RAM listed as being supported by the motherboard is as follows:

512MB Kingston - Part No.: KVR1066D2N7/ 512
1024MB Kingston - Part No.: KVR1066D2N7/1G
2048MB Kingston - Part No.: KVR1066D2N7K2/2G

It looks completely obvious that this is the problem - the only reason I'm posting about it here is that I absolutely cannot believe that this is the case.. How things have changed over the years.. Am I correct in my diagnosis?

Still doesn't explain why you're not getting any memory beeps with no memory installed at all? Have you tried running the board out of the case? Could be a rogue standoff shorting something on the underneath of the board.
Have you tried disconnecting everything and just running the bare minimum? ie psu, mainboard (obviously with cpu and mem in) and video card, short the on/off switch with a screwdriver to power up.

Tested a friend's RAM in the box, no dice. Was also assured by Overclockers that my ram is totally compatible with my motherboard.

Tested my CPU in a mate's box, and it worked fine.

So, it looks like it's the motherboard. Again. Does this happen often or what? First mobo arrived completely dead, this one ****** too.

Should I RMA this and try to get a different mobo?

RMA and make sure you ask to get a replacement, not your old one or a refursbished one.

Asus should be fine, but considering you have had the problem twice i could understand wanting a different make. Gigabyte could be a nice alternative

You might want to remove the sweary kopf ;)

Try a single RAM module in a black slot, I really think it may be down to the RAM.
