Im new to networking as some may know but im getting pretty annoyed now.

It seems whenever my laptop is turned on (connected wireless) I lag like you could never imagine on games, unplayable.

This can only really be resolved by turning laptop off and rebooting pc.

How does this work, is the connected split equally between each pc? Or which ever one is on first gets all the bandwidth?

Or maybe its just sucky 1mb pipex which has been playing up a while.

generally the router will share the connection between every connected pc.

Simply, limit other pc`s connections to the net.

i.e if you are surfing the net and someone is downloading, the downloading pc will get most of the connection.

Its really strange, i log my pc on first, later laptop but websites take an age to load

I just did a speed test on both, at the same time.

Pc got 200 laptop got 300, eventually when it started.

On a 1.1mb line shouldnt i be roughly getting 500 on each comp

Well yea i can but it kinda defeats the point in me buying a laptop  When my pc is turned off, i am smooth on games, no lag. When pc is on, internet sites take roughly 3years to load

I dont understand why, when i run speed test on both , both scores only add up to 500 ish, when im on 1.1mb :(

Is the laptop doing anything while its connected, for example if its downloading then it'll kill the network speed for other connections.

Its not a 50-50 split between machines, downloading and/or gaming will both try and hog the entire connection.

Just what i was thinking. Are you sure the laptop isnt downloading some massive antivirus update or similar when you turn it on?
