Problems with performance after adding more ram!

4GB only works in the Blue Channel slots, if I put them in the black slots I get the memory error light and my PC doesn't boot.

Sounds conclusive - but there may be a small amount of hope...

What cooler have you got installed and when did you last reinstall it etc?

I've got the H50 cooler, and I've only installed it once and that was when I build the system.

OK, there's a possibilty you've warped the MB and with it compromised the DIMM slot.

You may have slightly warped the MB when fitting the HS and this can stop the DIMM slots operating properly - especially ones nearer the CPU slot.

Try taking it off and refitting but this time being extra careful to follow the diaganol method of tighting the screws (bit by bit) to limit warpage.

EDIT: For some reason I read that as A70 (not H70) - but there's still a chance it may have warped the first slot.

Just read up about the DIMM slots, it's some motherboard thing as to where memory won't be detected unless the A1 and B1 are occupied.

Haha, indeed.

I'm convinced it's a mobo OC/voltage problem. I've just set the D.O.C.P on my mobo so now running 18x160 and 1600 ram - Vcore and ICM at auto.

Games load up and playable, usually they would just crash/lock up.

*Edit* - as stated, everything runs fine at stock speeds.

Gave in, going to set the ram back under DSR and invest in some 2x4GB ones.

May as well - you can probably get ~£25 for the old set via MM.

2 x 4Gb would be my preferred combo with a clock.

XMS3 - it's got a proven track record and is very slutty, it will operate in most motherboards. Also, it's low profile so if you ever revert back to air you wont have any issues with space.

G.Skill are very good too...
