Hey guy's im new to the OC Forum community but not new to the website lol.

Im currently having issues with reformatting my HDD, it's currently 1TB and has 2 Operating Systems installed, now i tried reformating with Windows Disc in but all it did was install another operating system (hence the 2 systems) I'm not entirely sure how i managed that lol. I know roughly what i'm doing with hard ware but when it comes to soft ware im useless.. So my question is how do i completely wipe the entire hard drive so i can start off fresh and have it like when you buy it, CLEAN! heh.

You need to format the drive, Windows Setup provides simplified options for doing this. How you go about it depends on the version of Windows you're installing.

Boot from your Windows XP disk and in due course choose the options to delete and refomat ( deleting any partions etc)

I thought this to, however when i did Windows Setup off the disk there was no option of a format just to install another copy of Windows on my system.

Tried that but it wont let me delete the partition because it contains windows files, i apprantley need to make new partition put windows files on that then reformat the old partition allowing me to allocate all my space back into 1 partition rather than being 2 seperate one's which is only thing i can think of doing but seems a whole lot of hassle just for a quick 30 - 40 minute job through some form of a program lol.

Something aint kosher somewhere. Takes a minute unless you are going to "long" format as against quick format
Borrow a copy of XP or download windows 7 and boot from that
What make of HD is it? Samsung/ Westen etc all have applications on their sites that can be downloaded

Well this is what i thought an I'm going for the puriest and cleanest of formats regardless of whatever one it may be.. I've got my own copy of Windows XP but I'm guessing it's not far from the rubbish bin, So whats windows 7 then? As i might try that... An i believe my HDD is a Samsung.

In respect of Windows 7 what are you wanting 64 or 32 bit depends on your hard ware. Few people will now wantingly use 32bit.
At this time I would suggest using Windows 7 Build 7229. It runs out on the 1st of Feb 2010

Website got a esTool for the drive with a Low Level Format function, Any idea what that means "Low Level" bit lol.. and I'm not entirely sure about 64bit or 32bit, but i guess i'll download Windows 7 & look into it =/
