I've got two isues.

The first is that when using the ICH controller, the system is very slow to detect that a drive has been added or removed. Sometimes I can wait several minutes for it to notice.

The other issue is new today. When adding a drive, my fixed drive (X:\) gets forgotten and doesn't even show up in Disk Management, or when telling Windows to rescan hardware (C: is not affected).

Interesting stuff. I'm going to try one of the other controllers, but I've had problems with them before. I forget what they are. One's Marvel and is quite bad in AHCI mode.

Has anyone got any ideas? The ICH controller is supposed to be the good one.

Thanks

Aw, can someone edit the title to say "SATA"? Thanks

I just solved the 2nd problem. Very interesting solution: I connected the hotswap rack to a different voltage rail and X:\ no longer disappears. I'll have to check how my power is set-up. There's no more than 2 disks on any rail, so something seems to be amiss.

Problem #1 still outstanding though.
