Hi All.

New to forums so bear with me lol!!

I have vista ultimate 64bit, 2 ATI 3870x2 gpu's, 4gb of ram, n it all runs sweet on a 32'' full hd tv:D, when i install 8gb of ram, (which is my mobo max) to try to run 3d mark06, my graphics go all screwy, i can no longer run at res 1920x1080, infact it runs at some stupidly small res, i know all of the 4 x2gb sticks are not faulty, neither are my ram slots, i also have ample power running to my machine, plenty of airflow, i have tried 3 or 4 different driver versions, even tried running just 1 gpu, but all to no effect, so any ideas on what could be causing this issue?
Also, my system recognises all 8 gb of ram, but i cannot adjust my res.
i get a message with something like 'Catalyst has stopped working, please update/rollback'

Please help!:confused::confused::confused:

Try each card individually? Sounds like at least one is faulty.

And welcome to the forum, btw!

It only does it with the full 8 gig of RAM in? fine with 4?
If thats the case then sounds like the RAM is causing extra system instability, not uncommon when using all 4 DIMMs
Ensure your DRAM voltage is manually set to correct level in BIOS, and try bumping your NB voltage a couple of notches, that should alleviate the extra system strain of using all 4 DIMMs

my ram can run @ 2.1v optimum, so i have set it to that, i'll let u know what happens when i remember to press 'delete' on boot up lolol

your memory will be fine
try running at default bios settings [optimised defaults maybe]

also make sure you are running the latest version of 06

is there any games that the problem is occuring on? i noticed a significan amount of tearing on screen when i was benching with two of these cards

no games have been tried, its the screen res on my desktop as soon as i start my rig, i dont even run any other programs (i assumed ingame it would the same)
All of my bios is set at default except ram, but i will try that just incase.

@ Leeroy, not that bud, i have tried all 4 sticks in all 4 dimms, n even in my other rig.

I have benched the 2 cards b4, but with 4gb of ram and they work great, only when i have all 8gb and start my pc does the problem occur

although this post is now nearly 5-6 months old, i have found the solution.

VISTA

I installed Windows 7 yesterday, downloaded the exact same version of CCC i was previously runnin, and its fine, W.7 see's, and uses all 8gb.
So now my only problem is going to be finding something that will utilise all that ram!:D

Damn Vista
