Problems with XP after disabling some start up items

Hi all

playing around with the girlfriends dads pc, he's asked me to speed it up abit. so started by disabling aload of the start up items. now i have no xp theme no internet connection! i very confused

the internet is via a bt home hub, ethernet connection! i have re enabled EVERYTHING and still i have no internet connection!

any ideas? getting abit confused!!

check control panel / network connections. see if anything there is disabled so the ethernet connection (to bt home hub?) is being made to where it should be.

if there is a connection see if the web browsers are working in offline mode via the file menu in whichever browser you are using.

check in the hardware profiles to see if there is a conflict anywhere regarding the ethernet connection hardware?

Check the event viewer for clues.

Or... do a system restore.
