Process of getting a private number plate.

Hey sorry to but in, but wondering if anyone can’t better advise that Google and DVLA website doesn’t seem clear.
I’ve bought a motor with a private plate on the plate was sold with the car and is stated in the advert, that’s not why I bought btw, I just made sure it was so to avoid issues but it seems I can’t find out if that plate now belongs to me because I actually quite like it and managed to get a couple of dates out it haha M22URS, I told them it meant Me 2 Yours and it worked haha I’ve change log book and it’s come through with this plate on is that it now is it mine and how to I get the paperwork v778 or whatever it is so I can keep it if I want. Thanks in advance I just don’t want some Herbert later on saying I’ve got their plate and I’m forced to pay to remove and transfer. Thanks again

The plate belongs to the car until you take it off. If the previous owner didnt remove it then ownership went to you when the car was sold. You can apply online to take the plate off and put in on retention and your car will be given a date appropriate plate (usually the original one but sometime DVLA have sold it) and you will be given a v778.
