Hi all, firstly Happy New Year! ( a little late for a merry christmas :) )

Now I believe that the problem im having is related to my graghics card. Its a Gainward 7900GT 512mb Golden Sample card and i brought it back in july. Now I want to return the product that i brought in july from overclockers for testing. However I cant find my receipt I have the card receipt but not the a4 sheet. Now I wondered because i know from the card receipt the exact time and date i purchaced the card is there anyway that I could return it to OC? I know it doesnt state the name of the product on this recipet but i wondered if records were kept of purchaces because i know after looking at other recipts they all have order numbers etc so i just wondered if there was any log of all the transactions and they would tally with my time and date??

I wouldnt mind so much if the card was a cheap one but it cost me £234 (not cheap for a student) If there is advice you guys could give me id be so greatful. I have tried so many differnet things I just feel ive wasted so much cash. Now if your interested heres the problem and the solutions i have tried. This is coppied from another forum where a guy was helping me but then never responded after a few posts.

The Problem

Now this shows the error on Rollercoaster tycoon but i have the same problem in Company of heroes, call of duty and world of warcraft actually it even did it once when i veiwed the album art in itunes.

The computer displays wavey white lines and sometimes they are thicker than others? The thing is at first the whole pc stops i cant here anything and then little bits of sound come back and then it all comes back except the display. I can here my character in warcraft walking around but the screen is frozen and so i have to restart the pc. The problem can happen 5 mins into a game 25 mins, 55mins any time.

Now your probably thinking its a grapghics card problem or maybe your not?

What I have tried:

To be honest i tried so much that ive forgotten some but i have tried the following:

1. The latest drivers. The card I have is an gainward Nvidia 7900GT 512mb Golden sample edition. I have tried the drivers that came with it, the latest drivers and every driver in between. When triing the different drivers i have used driver cleaner pro to remove them or ive formatted the PC.

2. OS. I have tried Windows 2000, Windows XP home and XP 64bit and have the same problem.

3. Another graphics card. I brought my new nvidia in july this year after i was having problems running games at high quality with my Saphire x700 pro, however i have tried my x700 pro again and the same error doesnt show (the white lines) but the pc does sometimes freeze and i can here the game carrying on.

4. Format. I have done more formats than days in a year. Well it feels that way. I do several full formats before i put a OS on i dont just do 1.

5. Tested the RAM? Yes I have tested the Ram in another machine and it runs fine and i have tried memtest and it says no errors plus ive tried mem test.

6. Hard Drive? I have tried 2 different hard drives but had no luck.

7. Power Supply. I have a seasonic 500W PSU that is ok for SLi so it should be fine for just 1 card. I brought it new in july along with the card.

8. Cooling. My pc has 4 case fans and an exhaust fan. Also the processor has a artic freezer pro on it to keep that cool. Also all the wires are neat and there is a lot of room in the case. It also happened with the AMD stock cooler.

9. I have upgraded the bios to see if that worked but had no luck.

10. The other day i brought the this week only motherboard the DFI LanParty RDX200 CF - DR I know its a crossfire board but i thought for £35 its worth it to test it as one of my m8s said it might be the motherboard anyway exactly the same problem happens.

11. Checked all my clock speeds and temps and they are all fine.

12. Asked for forum help.

One thing i havent been able to try is the card in another PC because i cant get my hands on a PCIE pc only an agp one. Also im not sure if it could be the processor because I am also unable to test that.

Also i should point out that for a time i did have my CPU overclocked it isnt now though i put it back as i couldnt get a good speed out of it without it crashing so its now back to the core speed I used the artic freezer 64 pro HSF when i did this not the amd HSF

I have asked some people and 1 seys it is the nvidia card even though the radeon one locks up but in a different way. 1 person says the motherboard but ive now proved it isnt that and all I know is im 17 spent £235 on a grapghics card £80 on a PSU and £200 on a monitor because my old one broke. All that in one year has left me with hardly any cash left. So I could really do with your advise, if it is a particular thing i dont mind finding the cash to buy a new one execept the gfx card ill be really mad.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Borked graphics card - RMA it.

Amrit - was there a need to quote the entire post?

You'll be able to RMA the graphics card - give their support number a ring if I were you, and tell them the situation with the receipt.

OcUK Support - UK 0871 222 8528

Phone is better IMO as it gets things sorted there and then ;) Although they're proably not open till Tuesday now?

I had the same problem with my gfx card (X800 AGP) shortly before it died  Fuzzy lines and had to restart to get rid of them

I feel sorry for you having to spend all that money :( I remember buying an nVidia 5600 a long time ago, it was a *really* bad card... was SO dissapointed after having spent all my money on it!

I had that problem when my old rig was overclocked and I installed a X1900XT-X. Underclocked it and it was fine, think it was the PSU causing this problem, so I bought a new PSU then overclocked it again and it was fine.

Hi guys thanks for the reply but like i said in my post ive lost the receipt just not the card recipt that comes out of the chip and pin machine?

Can i still RMA?

Have you tried underclocking it as GazD suggested? If your PSU was the problem that could explain the blackouts too I guess :)

I'm sure that they can dig up some evidence of your purchase... You bought it from a store, rather than online? Because if it was from online, you could just log in to your account and print off the part that shows your previous purchases.

In a store, though... I guess I'd take in my statement with the amount and name of the store, and bring it back all fully packaged. I'm sure that (with a bit of hassle!) they can bring up your purchase details somehow, but I think you'll have to be prepared to stand there and make a scene if they try and fob you off with the "no reciept" issue. At the end of the day, you have the card number and bank statement which proves you bought something of the same value to that card, and you have been sold a faulty product (if the GFX card is the fault, anyway) :p

Hi guys I have tried underclocking and the pc is now running at the normal clock. I brought it from the store as i only live 10mins away. Ill dig up my statement and the card receipt and try take it back.

Thanks for the Help
